Screen Issue - In Apps

Having a pretty strange issue with my One X. There seems to be a certain part of the screen, while in (pretty much) any app, it does not register input to the touchscreen. But, if I'm on my home screen, I can open the folders in that location and open apps. Happens when I try to scroll in Chrome, happens when I try to scroll in Instagram, and it happens when I try to enter my PIN in Google Wallet. Sometimes it's an issue on the lock screen trying to enter my PIN, just gotta hit it a few times. Keyboard is affected too; I've tried it in the stock messaging app, and in Hangouts. Picked up on it because I haven't been able to type as fast as I usually do because it ends up missing half the letters.

Trying to determine if it's a hardware issue, or software, and I really don't want to reformat this phone for the tenth time. Is there an app or something I can download that measures screen input or something like that? Meanwhile, I'll be checking with AT&T to see if I can get a warranty replacement just in case.

My hands-on time with the OneX is less then 5 minutes, so take this with as much salt as you need to...

The fact that it's only happening in-apps but not on your home screens makes me think it's software (OS or app conflict) rather then hardware (failing digitizer or other bits of silicone inside). I would think if it was failing hardware, either it would be very inconsistant (sometimes on the homescreen, sometimes not. Sometimes in apps, sometimes not), or VERY consistant (same spot on the screen, no matter if it's homescreen, or in app, or lock screen)

If I were you I'd bite the bullet, and do a factory reset. Back up everything, and go for it. But to save yourself some hassle, only download a few apps. After a fresh factory reset and a few apps you should be able to find out fairly quickly if the problem is solved.

Final thought as I was typing. Only install 2 or 3 apps at a time between testing your screen. You may have an app screwing around with you touch input. I can't say that I've heard of it before, but it is a possibilty.

Yet another thought. Make sure you phone is NOT in a case, near a wireless charger, or plugged in while you test. I forget which device it was, but a while back someone posted that they had problems with an unresponsive area on their screen. It turns out it was the case (which had a small magnet built in) that was messing with the digitizer. Once he removed the case, all was fine again. Just a thought to help you troubleshoot

Yeah, the best I can do with a replacement is an RMA and get the same phone. So I'll be doing a reset soon, and only installing Hangouts and Chrome, as those are the two apps I use the most that I'm having an issue with. If those are bad from the start, then I'll do the RMA, otherwise I'll load an app or two on at a time.

To add to it, and probably make the problem a little more clear, it's the SAME part of the screen that's a problem, all the time. The same strip of screen has trouble receiving input. Below and above it, no problems at all.

It's possible parts of your screen are dead to the touch. I had a similar problem with my HOX about six months ago. I confirmed the problem using an app called "Screen Touch Test". After installation, I booted the phone in safe mode to eliminate possible interaction with any app, and ran the test. It confirmed that the bottom 1/2 inch of screen did not respond to touch. I took a screen capture to prove the point. AT&T swapped the phone under warranty, and all has been fine since then.
