screen lights up when getting text

I have the tmobile galaxy s4. It really annoys me when the screen lights up when I get a text or notification. I like for the blue notification light to still go on. I looked in the text settings and couldn't find anything about pop ups there. Can anyone help me please?

I am on Sprint with an S3, and my screen lights up when I get a text too. I think this is a feature that is coded in the ROM itself, nothing that can be turned on or off in settings.

So it can't be turned off?

I think it does it automatically with the stock messenger... If u get another messenger app, it will not light up on its own

I recommend you get LightFlow & another SMS App like Sliding Messaging.

Ok thanks. And those wont mess up your phone? Last time I downloaded a text app on another phone it caused my phone to freeze a lot.
