Screen lock/unlock

Hi...Total noob so pardon if these questions seem strange. I've learned lots lurking here & appreciate all the great info. I've searched for answers, but haven't hit paydirt. Now one full week into evo/smartphone experience!

So, first question...

What's the purpose of screen lock/unlock? Apparently, on the Evo, it's an HTC Sense, rather than an Android, function, but I haven't determined its purpose. It would be almost impossible to activate the phone accidentally by pressing the topside power button. This button requires a determined effort. I would certainly be willing to live with that one-in-a-million eventuality if there's some way to disable the lock. (Unless there's a downside I'm not considering???).

I've noticed a MyLock app, but I'm not sure if this is the solution.

Am I overlooking a real-world reason for the screen lock? Am I overlooking a simple way to disable it? thanks.

Hey Nuevo, are you talking about the slide lock or the pattern lock? I agree that the slide lock is pretty worthless, but the pattern lock does add a bit of security.

I just tried No Lock, and it appears to disable both the slide and the pattern locks. Is there a way to only disable the slide lock but not the pattern lock?

Thanks for your replies.

eKennedy, I was definitely thinking slide lock - haven't tried pattern lock yet. My second question, though, is about security.

terpitude71, NoLock absolutely worked as anticipated! BUT, it created a worse problem: Most of my apps disappeared!

Icons on my ALL APPS page shrank from about forty to six! I immediately uninstalled NoLock (down to five apps), but that didn't help. On the MANAGE APPLICATIONS page, I see that all the apps are still there. I just can't access them.

Also, BTW, on the MANAGE APPLICATIONS page, there's an app called "HTC Lock Screen" which shows 0.00B. That might be a better way to disable the screen lock, except (1) I'm not likely to go there without some HTC education first, and (2) the 0.00B...is there really anything there?

Meantime, my Evo has become, temporarily I hope, something of a brick. Does anyone know how to get my apps back? (I thought I would be able to run apps from the MGE APPS page, but, no luck.)

Thanks for any suggestions.

that is very odd. i would email the dev to see if he has a fix incase it is a known issue on his part.
