Screen mirroring

So I was interested in using my phone as a mirror, and being able to play videos and such on a tv. I went on Amazon, bought a usbc to hdmi adapter, and when I plug it in, it launches Samsung dex? Instead of screen mirror. Is there a fix for this? I'd rather use my phone instead of the dex program. I'm broadcasting to a tv 20-30' away, and I'd like to just be able to use my phone as a screen. Thanks guys! I did search but had no luck.

Have a Chromecast. I'm doing this in a garage not near Wi-Fi. Chromecast couldn't setup and was like waiting for dialup to load a video. So I'm using an hdmi to usbc adapter. And dex launches, instead of just mirroring the image to the tv.

It does otg supposedly. Like I said it launches dex, and that's what I use. It works ok, but you have to use a mouse and if disables the screen display.

Ah, gotcha. Have you tried (are you able to) relocating your router to provide better signal? Or even using a wifi booster/extender? Just trying to give some options other than an HDMI cable.

I'm sure you launched "smart view".
I haven't tried a cable, but I heard it's suppose to work.
I mirror with my Blu-ray player and have only problems with volume. It seems to change more then on my Note 5.

I can't relocate my router, or use a Wi-Fi booster/extender. It's not my garage, and I'm not going above hooking my phone up to the tv lol.

I haven't launched smart view? I'll try that on Friday. Most likely my problem. I just plugged my phone into the hdmi to usbc adapter and it launches dex.
