Am I missing something? I have the Nvidia Cover (hate it) and was under the impression that when I close the cover, the screen should turn off and back on when I open the cover. The screen is not turning off until it times out. I've looked through all the settings but can't find anything about this feature.

I do have a new cover on the way Amazon.com: Fintie NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 SmartShell Case - Ultra Slim Lightweight Stand Cover with Auto Wake/Sleep Feature for 2015 NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K-1 8.0 Inch, Fit for 2014 NVIDIA Shield 2 8", Map Brown: Computers & Accessories and I'm hopeful it will work but I'm not really confident. I believe it's an issue with the tablet and not the cover.

Anyone else having this issue are know of a solution?

One way to tell if the tablet's smartcover sensor is faulty is to run a magnet over the entire bezel (I'm not sure where this tablet's sensor is located). If the screen never turns off, then I would suspect there's a problem with the sensor, since that's how smartcover sensors typically work.

Very good idea, I'll give it a try. My new case will be here tomorrow also.

So, before I could find a magnet to use for testing, the new case came in. The auto sleep/wake function works perfectly with the new case.

I definitely do not recommend the Nvidia cover, it will not stay on very well at all and now to fine out that the one I had would not activate the sleep/wake function. Very disappointing for an oem accessory.

I'm enjoying the tablet and I really like the active stylus. I just wish they had kept the storage silo for the stylus. I chose this as an alternative to Samsung because they have not yet provided an updated version of the Note 10.1 or the Note Pro. I can't say just yet how well it's going to make out as a replacement but we shall see. If only Samsung would put out an 8" Note, it would be the perfect companion to my Note 5.

Thanks for the update and the advice on the Nvidia cover! Although I'd bet that if you contacted Nvidia about it, there's a good chance they'd send you a free replacement.
