Screen Overlay Detected error on Marshmallow.

Hi, I had similar problem... I had several apps that would not open due to an issue with "Draw over other apps" setting being locked and unable to change the setting. So I reset my phone thinking it would solve the issue but it created another issue. Under the "Draw over other apps" setting I only had a few of the apps (most were missing) so I could not even change the setting.

To resolve the issue the apps that I had access to and could modify setting, I changed the setting to OFF (even system apps). Then I went back to the apps that I wanted to enable the settings and it finally allowed me to make the change.

In short, try changing all apps setting to OFF. This should resolve the issue.

Screen ovelay detected it appears to me when using some apps
Plz i need help
Thanks

For me, it was my blue light filter. Pausing it did the job but I then had to go back and switch some permissions back on. I've used that app with no problem before so no idea why it was a problem today.

Help! I'm having the same issue only I don't use Twilight, Lux or any of the other apps mentioned here. I had an app called Screen Filter for reducing brightness, so when I started reading posts about this error I thought Screen Filter had to be the culprit. First I turned off the Screen Filter overlay settings. Didn't fix it. Then I tried to force-stop Screen Filter. Didn't fix it. Lastly I just uninstalled the damn thing.....still didn't fix it. I don't have any other apps installed to my knowledge that would be causing this problem. Any ideas?

Edit: I found another post on Reddit after I posted this. If you go into the App settings for the apps that give you this error you can manually enable the permissions causing the error without having to uninstall or stop any other apps. I reinstalled Screen Filter after doing this on my problem apps and everything is working fine now.

For anyone with note 4. You need to turn off side key panel. Pull down the notification bar, click on the 4 boxes icon in top right corner and then find side key panel and turn off. I was 1 day away from going to iPhone...lol.....I'm glad I fixed it.

Turn off aNY dual screen pull outbar it worked on note 4

Dont need to uninstall any apps ever
Turn off
Back on again
Hold volume down
See safe mode appear
Settings
Find app
Turn permission to desired app example storage or whatever it asks for
Boot off and on

Done

Fb: HD.roid

This occurs when you have any software that extends battery life example battery doctor. you can uninstall the app and enable permissions the reinstall and eveything should be fine

The problem is caused by some already downloaded and started sloppy developed app. Some members mentioned several. In my case it was FILE MANAGER HD which would not allow proper WhatsApp functioning. Using KILLER app will allow you to resolve the conflict, but the problem in your phone stays. After restarting of the problematic app the dreaded "screen overlay detected" will appear again when some other legit app asks for permissions. You have to find and remove the culprit/s. That is not that difficult.
1. When "screen overlay detected" appear, go to Settings -> Applications -> Application manager -> Change system settings and Turn OFF the first suspicious app which is ON. (You can speed up considerably your work by skipping apps from Google and other well known companies, such as Amazon, financial institutions, etc. Most probably the app you are looking for is made by some obscured developer.
2. Try again the app which invokes "screen overlay detected". If the problem is solved, you have found the app causing the problem. Uninstall it. If not, go to step 1. Do not turn ON the apps you already turned off. There might be more than one problematic app.
3. Restart your phone.

Somebody has to start list of problematic apps.

I also have this same problem. It's very irritating when you can't use the apps you want. Reconfiguring is endless. Do you think rooting my s7 will bury this Overlay issue forever? This is absolutely a nonsense security. The comfort of using your phone was simply blown away by such security. Can't Android develop an OS with both security and comfort? Looks like their development is going backwards.
