Screen Overlay Detected - To Change This Permission......6P is messed up

After switching off twilight app tht I use for auto light effect I was able to change the permissions for all the apps.

The twilight app has caused problems due to the overlay setting for saving files as well. I've found disabling it temporarily does the trick. Just re-enable it when done.

I just got the update, and had the same problem. I think I fixed it by resetting app preferences then restarting the phone. I've had to allow apps to access things that they already had access to before the update; but I haven't had the "screen overlay detected" pop up again

I have a LG G4

How did you reset app preferences? I have an LGG4 and the screen overlay issue is annoying.

Try going to Settings. general. Apps. The 3 dots. Configure apps. App permissions first.

Hello Jodene, welcome to the forums. Do you have File Manager or any other app by Cheetah Mobile (CM) installed in your phone? Many users with a similar problem managed to fix it after uninstalling any CM app.
THIS!! THANKS!!! That damn file cleaner app by them was qlitching it! THANKS YOU!

My Note5 did a system upgrade earlier this evening & completely wiped my phone when it restarted!! That's the very first time I have ever had that happen before. Also, the phone didn't automatically backup the phone before installing the upgrade. My understanding was that a backup was automatic & standard before inatalking upgrades. I had the option to restore the phone from the last backup from 2 days prior so I know it wasn't backed up. I'm really concerned about those issues!! Don't want it to happen again.

Anyway, now that I'm setting up my phone AGAIN, I'm getting this same message on nearly everything I'm doing. I've actually turned ALL applications listed under Draw Over Applications to OFF. I haven't done so with the applications listed under the System Applications Tab also in Draw Over Applications. I even found, on another feed about the same message, to open up developer options & turn Stay Awake (while charging) to off. Mine was already off. Also, I don't have any strange applications downloaded. Everything is pretty standard - Evernote, Pocket, Mozilla, Facebook, etc. Nothing from Cheetah. I didn't have this problem before the system upgrade! I only saw this message once or twice before. Now it's literally on every application I open, even in my contacts!!!! I've rebooted the phone 4 times since the system upgrade tonight too, completely turing off & turning back on rather than just restarting.

Still having this problem. I am still receiving the message on every application, even after turning ALL applications to off!!!! The phone was just completely wiped. I had to start over from scratch, selecting a language after the system upgrade. Do you really think I have to wipe it & start over AGAIN???? What if it backs up now & I don't want it to -- I don't want it to back up & reinstall anything that is causing this.

Someone, anyone, please help.... I'm stuck. Beating my head on the wall. And I've spent 5+ hours on the phone with Verizon in the past week about the lack of service at home & dropped calls despite my Network Extender, that I really do not want to call & spend another hour or 4 on the phone with them!! Thanks for listening to me rant. ☺ And thanks in advance for all help, time & consideration.

I don't have Twilight or anything else by Cheetah. My Note5 did a system update tonight. Completely out of the blue, caught me totally off guard. Usually I get notifications to download update & then it asks if I want to install it or delay it. Even let me set date to delay, etc. Also, get warning about battery life, etc. My phone was completely dead. In fact I thought it was shutting off bc of the battery. When I read the screen, it said installing system update.

Shocker!! My 1st thought was that I didn't even know the phone downloaded an update. WIPED my phone! After the update, when the phone rebooted itself & turned back on, it opened in the Set Up wizard asking for language!!!

Did you have those problems too? Did you know in advance you had a system update? When your phone updated did it wipe the phone??? I'm just curious.

I've turned off ALL applications listed in Draw Over Apps, and it hasn't helped anything. I'm getting the message in nearly every app, including Google Photos (not listed in Draw Over Apps either!), Google Drive, Facebook, even my contacts!!!!

YES!!!! I feel you. I'm ready to throw the dang phone!!!

Hey guys! Hope this helps as it drove me nuts too for hours:

You may not need to uninstall anything or change any permissions. I was getting this loop of death while trying to use a new app, turned all permissions off, reset app data, rebooted, looked for CM apps, lumen, Twilight, etc, (none of which I had installed) NOTHING was helping and then I thought of the simplest thing and just

cranked my screen brightness to full and unchecked Auto brightness, switched back to the app and it worked instantly.

No more Screen Overlay Detected. This message pops because of an active app that is currently using an overlay, so if you see a FB chat head or if you are using your screen dimmed that seems to be what causes it most of the time for me.

Just happy I won't have to be turning off overlay permissions 20 times a day.

Hope this helps some of you!

I have S6 Edge & was also encountering 'screen overlay detected' message. I uninstalled Clean Master App by CM & it has solved the problem.

...For any SAMSUNG GALAXY series user out there suffering with this :confused::'(....
all you have to do is disable SIDEPANEL or any related feature of the INFAMOUS TOUCHWIZ

i have a NOTE 4 and suffered with this for a long time, unistalling every suspicious app, disable all the apps, restarting
wipe cache, the only solution that i have at one time was factory reset the phone but the problem returns
thats when i realize that it was not an app, the problem was in the system.:-X

GOOD LUCK!!;)

Used CM for years no problems. Using the Nexus 7 (2013) never had a problem until about 5 days ago boom screen overlay. If I shut all the overlays off nothing really works , turned off the File Manager HD and CM overlays and well CM is off but why has this suddenly happened. Google Photos worked just fine up until todays update. And I need to have the rotate screen app running since for whatever reason Nexus 7 no longer rotates on it's own :(

Just to throw in my own experience, I've been seeing this issue lately and just realized that for me it was caused by having Chat Heads floating around from FB Messenger. As soon as I toss away the chat heads, the overlay error stops coming up.

Has anyone got this error message? I'm trying to share a photo via facebook and whether from my gallery app or from facebook. It asks if I want to give FB access to my storage. I say yes. It says "Screen overlay detected- To change this permission setting you first have to turn off the screen overlay from Settings > Apps"

I do that but nothing works. Whether it says NO by FB's Screen Overlay allowed, or YES - it still just directs me in this endless loops. Have tried reboots and nothing. Anybody else experiencing anything similar?

Deleting cleanmaster fixed mine

Hey guys
I was also having the same issue. I was totally messed up with that and really wasted my 2 hours on that.
Iam having a Samsung note 4.
I don't know why this error is happening on other brand devices.
But if you guys using Samsung note series, then I can help you.
In Samsung this error is because of on screen side key panel.
Just go to notification panel=>expand it=>turn off side key panel
That's it.
