Screen Overlay Detected - To Change This Permission......6P is messed up

Has anyone got this error message? I'm trying to share a photo via facebook and whether from my gallery app or from facebook. It asks if I want to give FB access to my storage. I say yes. It says "Screen overlay detected- To change this permission setting you first have to turn off the screen overlay from Settings > Apps"

I do that but nothing works. Whether it says NO by FB's Screen Overlay allowed, or YES - it still just directs me in this endless loops. Have tried reboots and nothing. Anybody else experiencing anything similar?
You r lucky because I can't even open my gallery because of this

After an update from Sony 2 days ago. My Experia Z3 is giving same s.... It is very frustrating.:(
Please help!!!!!!!

Hello Jodene, welcome to the forums. Do you have File Manager or any other app by Cheetah Mobile (CM) installed in your phone? Many users with a similar problem managed to fix it after uninstalling any CM app.

THANK YOU! This has been a persistent problem for almost a week, getting worse each time I tried to fix. None of the other solutions were applicable to me "lux, or changing permissions". I did have Cheetah Mobile's 'Clean Master' app installed, once it was removed all is well.

Glad it helped, Gina! Thanks for your feedback and welcome to the forums!

Ah! A thousand apologises to Sony....the culprit was Data Monitor's bar over screen's notification bar...caused me a lot of frustratration till I remember a 750kb app. appearing only when data is flowing....I had removed almost all my app...
Hope that helps others...

The Cheetah products is what caused mine. Clean master, battery saver.....

Mine happened with IG.. Sadly, it says "No permissions allowed" and redirects me to the screen overlay screen.. OMG!!!! I have been it for hours!

i found the solution. just click on go to settings and look at your apps that already have screen overlay permission. one app is preventing other apps to change permission.my app was assistive touch app which gives apple like assist button.once i turned screenoverlay permission everythnh was fine.easy as that. so you have to identify your problematic app.just start with new apps which have some sort of onscreen or background action.turn off one by one and check issue is solved!

Restart your phone into safe mode then it will allow you to change permissions. Then restart it back to normal mode. This is a confirmed work. No need for a factory reset or anything.

Im having the exact same problem, I have no screen overlay apps, no twilight no CF. Filter etc, and all my app permissions have been set to no and I still get the error

I was having issues with my Nexus 6P as well, especially with the TextNow and Facebook Messenger. I have disabled the screen overlay options in TextNow and it seems to have fixed the issue.

Is there any way I can tell my phone to stop caring about screen overlays altogether ? If it always has to be off for *anything* to function, why have the option in the first place? It clearly serves point and the permission should just be removed entirely. I *constantly* have to switch back in forth because the apps that need it actually need to do it (Lux, Tasker, Pocket, etc) but doing so renders every other app useless until I switch it back off. There's no reason for it. It's just terrible programming, like I'm being punished for using popular and useful apps. It's a frustrating and constant annoyance.
