screen problems with my new captivate

Hello group,

I've had my captivate for about 3 weeks now. It's had a ZAGG invisibleliShield on it from the time it left the box. Just the other day noticed a couple of lines or streaks in the display. To me they look like a line in the display is not being displayed properly. Not a scratch or a crease in the protector. Looks like a video glitch. I noticed it while playing angry birds landscape. The lines are most obvious in a light consistent display like the background in some angry bird screens and a blank web page in the browser. Most visible in landscape running left to right across portions of the screen.

Has anyone seen something like this before? I've really babied this phone, no way it is physical damage. I did take it to the local att store. Guy said he has never seen such a thing before.

Sounds like a screen defect. I know on LCD screens, it is not uncommon for a line of pixels to go bad when one of them dies. Have them give you another one, and see if they will spring for a new screen cover.

This sounds very odd but i have seen a SAMOLED screen suffer severe burn in. although what you are describing doesnt sound like burn in it is still a defect that should be covered so hopefully you have taken it back to get this corrected.

Have them replace it. As for the Zaggskin, it's warranteed for life. Pull it off of the phone before you take it in, stick it on a piece of paper or something and send it back when they send you a new one. You just need to go to their website and register. The new screen is free and you pay $4 for shipping.

Its that damn Zagg screen protector! I had those lines in the first 2 screen protectors they put on. Then the 3rd one had a little one and I just said screw it. Personally I would say rip that Zagg shield off and make them do it again. And then once that screen protector is gettn old, dont buy another! Those shields are crap, there are plenty of better ones online for cheaper, and you usually get 2 or more!

well I spoke with amazonwireless where i bought the phone. They sent out a replacement and have been very responsive to support issues. Great service. I also registered with zagg and have a new screen protector on the way. My replacement phone should be here today. Not sure when the protector will get here.

Dan, that is interesting info about the zagg screen protector. I have not taken it off, so I can't confirm. I did not want to remove it until I had a replacement. That is how anal I am about keeping this phone pristine. Can you/anyone recommend a better brand?

Thanks for all the advice.

Considering the phone is Gorilla glass....it seems you're being a bit overly concerned (this coming from a man that shares your desire for shiny tech). Not sayin you don't need a protector, but goin a lil time w/o one isn't all that horrible considering your phone.

As for the At&t guy saying he's never seen it before....that would concern me. At first it sounded like you were describing dead pixel's, which is fairly easy to recognize. But if the At&t guy doesn't recognize it, either he's an idiot or you have quite the odd issue on your hands (worth taking the protector off to save an unneeded replacement....hell the replacement could always be worse).

Pretty sure the att sales people have never seen anything before and when you come to them with an issue they tell you to call att... Worthless for anything but a sale, when buying a phone do online research and go to the store to play with the phone, other then that keep all other human interaction from att store to a minimum, haha.

As for a different screen protector, I tried RealLook, the easiest install I have ever done, and it looks flawless, cant even tell its there, if you want I can try and send pics, and try and show you that there is in fact a screen protector on my phone, but trust me you wont be able to tell. Plus you get 2 trys for 10 bucks, you wont need 2 trys tho...

Dan, you were right. The screen protector was causing the issues. I removed it and the lines were not visible. So I am a bit perturbed by the zagg product. Amazon had already sent the replacement for the phone. I noticed that my original phone was batch 1009 and the new phone sent to me was 1007, which has been reported to be troublesome with GPS. So I tested out GPS today and found that the new phone would not keep a lock long enough to use google navigate. so it looks like I am going to send the new phone back as the GPS sucks. I have tried all the hack over on xda. still not good.

Anyway, thanks for all the guidance here. I appreciate it. The phone is going screen naked until the Realook get's delivered.

You might want to check out the cheap PDA protectors available at Walmart for ~$5 for a pack of 5 (?) in the meantime.

Pros: cheap, available today, and super slick (better than the naked glass)

Cons: You gotta cut em to fit, and they're a little too short for the screen, so you have to use an extra piece to cover the top 3mm or so.

Hope this helps,

AoN
