Screen protector or not?

Protector against what?

Scratching? A cheap 3/$5 protector. The screen is going to get scratched unless either you're extremely careful or they come out with diamond screens.

Breaking? Nothing you can do about that yet. Drop any phone, protected any way but with very stiff metal or thick foam, screen-down to a hard point, and the protector and the screen will break. Wait for at least transparent aluminum screens (not sapphire - that's still too crystalline to be break-proof).

BTW, the only difference between Gorilla Glass (any number) and tempered glass is that Gorilla Glass shatters into shards, while tempered glass crumbles into little pieces. If the tempered glass is fully adhered to the screen, breaking the tempered glass protector is what will shatter the screen.

I had the same debate when I got my S6. I decided on a tempered glass screen protector and I am super glad I did. I am pretty careful with my phone (use the same pocket, don't put it into a pocket with keys, etc) but even with those precautions I have small micro scratches on the screen protector. I know that I can easily replace the SP but that my screen is safe!!!

Sure a screen protector might take away from the smoothness and natural feel of the phone's screen, but those are pretty small prices to pay compared to what you'll be up against when your display is riddled with scratches.
Gorilla Glass 4 is certainly tough but isn't invincible, so I say go for one!

I haven't used a screen protector in 5 or 6 years, when I buy a phone off someone with a screen protector I peel it off right away. Ive never had a screen scratch on me, but I don't keep anything else in my same pocket with my phone.

Had the S6 since launch with no protector, still mint condition today.

Exact same situation for me also.
