Did the inevitable and dropped the phone last night so have to replace the screen.

The online guides look pretty simple, not much harder than a Treo 650 teardown.

Are there any special cautions on what not to do?
Did see a note about needing some special tape. Is that what holds the battery to the back of the LCD?

I did order one online, but actually found one locally too (at Google of all places!).

Thanks

Screen Replacement

In case it helps anyone else. Turns out there are two levels of screens avail as spares.
One is the cheaper LCD/Digitizer.
More expensive is the screen pre-bonded to the chassis as an assembly.
Most of the videos show the second type not the first, which I had and I think is more common.

Swapping the assembly is pretty simple stuff. I had to get the old display off the chassis.
This is a bit harder. Loots of prying with a Stanley blade. You will need some of the fancy 3M tape to secure the new display to the chassis as well.

Things to be careful of include making sure all the old screen glass and adhesive are stripped from the edges of the chassis. Be very careful that the flexes are fully pulled through the slot. There are a couple of small parts on the back of the chassis for the proximity sensor and I think a noise cancel mike or a baro sensor. These stay in place when you remove the electronics so tend to fall off as you are removing the display. Easy to vacuum up along with broken glass!

A good $75 fix!
