screen resolution, 720p vs high res!

I have just purchased a moto g 2014 4g, I'm waiting a few months to decide on which flagship to get. Anyway after owning 1080p phones (m7, nexus 5, g2) and seeing 2k phones is it just me or is 720p still perfectly acceptable on mobile devices? Don't get me wrong 1080 screens are sharp and people like top specs but after couple days with moto g 720 on 5" is still nice to look at and read etc. I personally think 2k displays on anything smaller than a TV is a waste.

It's not just you. Even a 6" screen isn't large enough to make a real difference between 720p and 4k, and I have better than 20/20 reading vision (I can read the little copyright line at the bottom of the chart without trying).

Yep. Even on a TV - I have a 55" Vizio 3D with 1080p. If I stand really close I can see color dots. But sitting in my chair about 8 feet from the screen, it looks about the same as the 2k demos in the store. Maybe a 4k screen and a disk and player that can handle the 4k signal would make a small difference, but 1080p is already so good that making it better is more a technical thing than an entertainment one. You're not really going to notice more detail in a real 4k (or 8k, which is coming soon) picture than you will in a 1080p picture if you're paying attention to the show.

On phones? To see the difference between 1080p and 4k you probably have to have the screen touching your eyeball.

I'm not bashing higher resolution just think 1080p should be Max on a phone and 720 is still perfectly acceptable, concentrate on battery performance and colour reproduction I say.

I'm with butler: higher resolution screens are all well and good, but they're not worth a significant drop in performance or battery life. Unfortunately most flagship manufacturers seem to disagree.

One thing is 1080p to 1440p.

On a computer's screen I can notice. On a smartphone it's really more difficult, not everyone can see it.. (You really need to see the screen up very close, like for example a HTC M9 and a S6 )

But the difference between 720p and 1080p or even 1440p is huge.
