Screen turns on at night with new email/text. Not during day...

Last night I was messing with my wife's RAZR M and noticed she had the lock symbol burned into her screen. When I questioned her about it she said that at night when she gets a new message of any kind the display will come on. However, during the day it does not.

Any thoughts on how to disable this? Kinda late now but don't want to make the burn worse as she has a bit to go before an upgrade.

The M shouldn't turn on whenever a new message is received. It could be some app that's installed on her phone that is doing this. Also, does it have a custom rom that has this feature?
