Screen unlock issues

When I pick up the phone, it goes to a "breathing" screen or whatever it's called (black screen with just time and unlock and notifications showing). I swipe up to unlock but sometimes it would just take me to the regular lock screen or sometimes the screen would turn off and I would have to press the power button then swipe unlock. Anyone else have this problem?

Sounds similar to the s7's "always on" mode? Can you turn off that mode? I disabled (turned off) that feature on my s7.

That's Moto Display in action and sometimes it can be a bit fussy

The usual way to unlock is swiping down (to the padlock), but the screen will lock again if the swipe is not 'a straight line' or you take longer that usual. And things are different if you have notifications or not. If you tap on a notification you can swipe in different directions:

- right or left to dismiss is,
- down to unlock
- up to unlock and go straight to the notification.

Yes you can turn it off. I do find it useful so I don't want to go that route yet.
