I bought a new Samsung M12 with android 11, last update on june 01 2021. I'm not able to take screenshots.
- Pressing power and volume down together shows turn-off screen after a second.
- Palm swipe option is missing in Advanced features / Motions and gestures.
- In Accessibility / Interaction and dexterity / Assistant menu settings screenshot icon is set with '+' sign but when tried to use on an app screen it is not shown (other options are shown).
Probably it is completely disabled by a setup that I couldn't see. Is there a way to enable it ?

Quite often, on various phones, when I try to screenshot, other things happen, including, sometimes, nothing. This is true of Androids, iPhones and Windows Phones.

What about edge panel or hey Google take a screenshot with assistant?

Does this happen all the time or only in specific apps?

Typically banking apps don't allow screenshots.

MyChart, an app that I use to manage my medical services with all my doctors, does not allow screenshots.

Certain apps do not allow screenshots due to copyright, such as Hoopla, a library ebook app that I use to read ebooks borrowed from my local library.

Thanks for replies.
- B. Diddy, I tried to press side buttons together hundred times (I had experience from previous phone), no success. Sure it is not working this way. I installed Screen Master, I will try Bixby also. But I certainly will prefer built-in facility if there is.
- belodion, you are correct, making very different kinds of usages in different devices. But as written everywhere Samsung has to has this facility.
- mustang7757, I enabled edge panel, selected screen operations tab, it worked. It is not straighforward of course, needs several operations to take a shot, but I think it is a hint showing this phone should take one key screenshot some way.
- Laura Knotek, this is a general behaviour, not dedicated for a single app.

What about hey Google or bixby take a screenshot?

mustang7757, I tried it, saw a bunch of options, among them may be I missed screenshot. Now I discovered that when an app is active, pressing mid button long is popping up a menu containing screenshot option (I'm sure it wasn't there previously, may be because I tried 'take screenshot' by hey Google, or after enabling edge menu it started to appear there), it is working well, a few more keystrokes are required but satisfactory enough. It is working differently at main screen, means it has app specific settings. Thank you.

I'm glad to hear that , your welcome!

While it is odd that using the physical buttons doesn't work I'm wondering if there could be something that is blocking screenshots. I was thinking that it sounded like you may have been pressing the buttons too long when you mentioned that options to restart the phone appeared because it should be a quick short press of the buttons, but you stated that you have experience so that shouldn't be the issue. It is odder still that roundabout ways work, which in a way strengthens my feeling that it may be an app causing this issue but I'm not sure if screenshot works in Safe Mode. That would or should count out a bad app blocking it somehow.

Are you using a downloaded launcher? Some launchers change the behavior of a device and that may account for the physical button issue as well as some of the other methods failing.
