Screenshot/Volume info, can I get some help?

So, to take a screen shot - the user is to press the power and volume down buttons simultaneously and hold. When I do so, a volume slide bar appears at the top of the screen first - which eventually becomes part of the screen shot. Obviously, the volume slide bar would have relevance too me - if indeed I was attempting manipulate the volume.

Any work arounds on this?

Hello! What device do you use? I use Samsung Galaxy tab 4.
To make a screenshot I press power and home buttons simultaneously, works fine for me.

On my Nexus 5, I press Power and Volume down simultaneously. Exactly the problem you describe of the volume slider appearing often occurs. For some reason, I find that pressing with the pads of the thumbs, rather than the forefingers, is more likely to get it to work properly.
