I got my Xoom (3G without a SIM) a couple of weeks ago, and I really like it.
Today I noticed that it had a native "files" app. I tapped on files and it shows an icon for SD card with an X through it... Hummm I said, what would happen if I plug a SD card...

after plugging in a SD card (a 2 gig from an old phone I had lying around) I tap on "files", and I see 2 big icons "Internal Storage" and "SD card"...
And the SD card works fine..
Apparently, the person who gave me that Xoom, had an advanced version of 3.1

How cool is that..

Is it rooted?
Did you have to reboot for those files to show up?
What are the Android Version and Kernel Version under About tablet?

I assume it is not routed, I wouldn't know how to check..

the version says 3.1
kernel ver. 2.6.36.3

Did you buy it new from a store or did you buy it used?

Go into your app drawer, if you see an app called Superuser, it's rooted. But with that kernel, it's not. Interesting that the SD slot works. Does it look at all different than a regular Xoom? The back of it.
