I wanted to do a backup of internal storage and sd card before a factory reset. Connected phone to computer, As usual I opened My Computer>HTC Desire 601>Internal Storage then CTRL+A to select all files then right click CUT and then paste in a folder in desktop.

After it finished, I tried to cut all files in sd card to my desktop but when I tried to access My Computer>HTC Desire 601>External Storage(SD) I realized that it was EMPTY!!!

I checked every single folder in my desktop and there was no files related to my sd card, specially my over 500 pictures.

I have tried everything, restart phone, plug again usb, try to find pics with a file explorer and even put back all files from my desktop to my phone again but no pictures in sd card!!

It's weird but in storage settings I notice an "Other" line that is taking aprox the same 2.4GB of the pictures in sd card. Is any way that after removing all files from internal storage that it destroyed the file index/structure of the sd card and now it's in an unallocated space in internal storage?

I'll try with a microSD reader tonight at home, but file explorer show an empty sd card.

Welcome to Android Central! The first thing I'd do is unmount the SD card (in Settings>Storage), remove it, and insert it into your computer's SD reader (using a fullsize SD adapter). See if your computer's file browser can read it.

If you're doing a backup you should have used COPY, not CUT! If you really want to move instead of copy, I've always had trouble doing that across network connections, so I always copy first. Then once that works, I go back and delete the originals.

Hi guys, I used a SD adapter and Recuva to recover some of my files. Most of my pictures where there in " F:\?\ " path with not overwritten clusters.

Somehow android ruined the file system in SD card after CUTTING files from the internal storage. Thanks for the advice about copying.

Does anyone know why in the in internal phone storage there is a the next path: "Internal Storage>storage>emulated>0>" and a lot of android and some SD files?

Using a file manager I have the next directories on my HTC Desire 601:

/mnt/sdcard
/sdcard/
/sdcard2/
/storage/emulated/0
/storage/emulated/legacy
/storage/ext_sd
/storage/sdcard0
/storage/usb

They all looks with similar in content, I only know what path is the SD card for the Download folder.

I wanted to do a factory reset because I have been getting problem with apps not detecting files on internal storage and/or SD storage. Example, Gallery won't update automatically to show all internal and sd pictures folders as it used to do it before (Whatsapp images and video folder, Download pictures folder, Screenshots from the internal storage amount others) I was only getting Camera pictures and nothing else. Trying to send a picture message (MMS) was very hard because gallery wasn't showing any pictures more than the camera ones, I had to use file manager to go find the directory and click it and then click share it through Message app.

/storage/emulated/0 is actually the Internal Storage. /storage/emulated/1 is the external SD card.
