SD Card Opinions

So those of you that are doing this, running CM7 off the SD, is your NC basically 'stock' when you pull out the SD card?

I just did this using a 2GB Sandisk card that's not even Class 4 and it seems to run quite well. With that said, I do plan to upgrad to a 16GB Class 4 or 6.

Yes, but I never remove the SD card.

I have a boot menu that lets me choose eMMC or SD. As well, CM7 has a reboot option called "bootloader" that will boot stock.

Also, SanDisk class 4 appears to be the way to go.

Thanks.

So is it safe to assume that people that choose to install CM7 on the internal get a significant performance boost as the system is running internally? Or is the difference minimal? What other advantages are there to running it internally?

Performance Boost? Sure, but I don't know that it would be significant. The biggest advantage would be being able to use CMy and having an SD card available to store app data.

I would think keeping stock is the bigger advantage. The NC stock reader can handle the children's books (not the same as book apps in app store) while the android nook app cannot.

I was pretty happy running Roms off my Transcend 8gb class 6's (have 2 of them). But i ended up loading a rom onto my emmc anyways :)

I have the class 10 Kingston 8GB Micro SDHC Flash Card Model SDC10/8GB and I am running honeycomb off of it. It is incredibly slow! The whole system lags. Is it the card? honeycomb? Should i get rid of honeycomb since a 100% stable build is not going to be out in the near future? I haven't had time to comb through the forums lately, so I don't know hoe much has changed. Also, can someone tell me how to partition an sd card, I can't figure that out for the life of me!

It might not be the card. The processor in the CN wasn't really designed to handle HC. We went back to Froyo on ours. It runs much better.

My kingston class 4 card worked great for rooting but poorly for CM7. Sandisk class 4 FTW. I've even seen some people say that CM7 runs faster that way than on emmc but I haven't tried (waiting for stable deep sleep fix).

Check out this thread for some hard numbers on card comparisons.

can you run froyo off sd? i like having my regular nook to read on too!

Sure you can... Or, you can even run Stock off of SD and Froyo off of emcc (what I'm currently doing)... Since I use Froyo more than stock (I hardly ever boot into stock now), I just put Stock on an SD card in case I need to boot into it for whatever reason.

Of course, since the Nook app for Android recently got updated, I find less of a need to boot into stock since the Nook app can now see all of your magazines and everything...

I'd highly recommend CM7 personally - it's the best I've seen for the Nook Color...
