SD card requirements?

From what I understand, the 10 takes advantage of the ability to expand to 2TB. Does anyone know the specifics of this? Can I essentially grab any large SD card if I plan to mount it as addl storage (not as part of the main drive)? I was thinking of going 256 or 512.

Also, it seems that 4k video is pretty demanding in terms of card speed. Would I want to keep that on the main drive and just use an sd for music/movies?

The 10's manual seems pretty sparse when it comes to SD requirements.

Thanks!

It can do up to 2tb but they aren't made yet. As far as 4k video, I think you should be fine by storing on the sd card. Just make sure you get a quality card with a fast write speed.

Speed is indeed a critical issue when hi-res video is involved. I'd go for a UHS-3 class card for the higher write speed.

Thanks Jack for the answer and OP for the question. I didn't even realize this might be a problem and following your advice I returned the class 10 I ordered in favor of a UHS-1 U3..

I was thinking... With adoptable storage, wouldn't the higher speed SDcard be preferred even if you don't often shoot 4k video?

BTW, thx for the help everyone. I went with one of the 200gb scandisc cards. Crazy how cheap memory has gotten.

BYW, ^this turned out to be a fake, a very good one. Do not buy memory off of ebay. Even though I reported it and they refunded me, they still are allowing the seller to sell fakes.

From what I know, that would work, though it is a very expensive and you could get away with something a LOT cheaper if it's just music and such. Even for 4k video I'm seeing people say that the $50 Samsung 128gb cards are just fine.

You got a link for the card you ordered?
Never mind.

I recommend anyone looking just go to BestBuy. I did a lot of shopping around and they have most cards on sale this month and the prices are about the same as the cheapest online retailers. I've received fakes on Amazon before because they rely on many 3rd party sellers.
