Hi can I put a SD card in his xoom like I did with my x?

Yes but you can't use it right now. I'm assuming an OTA update will come soon that will allow it to work.

Yes, but not yet. The SD card slot will be expandable up to 32gb, when Motorola issues a software update to activate it.
