Search keeps opening by itself

I'm running a rooted Galaxy S 2 (Virgin Mobile) with the stock ROM. Lately I am noticing that the search window will automatically pop up (as if I had pressed the search button at the bottom right). I don't know how long this has been going on. I am questioning whether this may be a factor in my poor battery life. I did replace the digitizer a couple of months ago (cracked the screen when I tripped walking down the street, spaz that I am) and also wonder if the way that I seated the new screen is somehow causing the button to make contact.
Any ideas?
