Security update?

I have my warranty replacement coming and I wonder if they will install this update to it? I know IHO rom's will run on a phone after this update but that's installing on my current one and not losing my recovery. Might suck a bit getting a new one and not being able to root it!

VM probably will be shipping phones with this at any time.

No, IHO will not run on them because you have no way to install it.
Yes, someone has claimed it didn't replace their recovery, I'm not sure what happened there, but that is NOT what is supposed to happen. I suspect the person either modified the update or it didn't work.

This is supposed to update the radio, wipe out your rom AND recovery, and lock down the phone.

Oh I know we can't get root yet. I meant once we can iho will run on ov's that have had this update. I've flashed this to my current ov and it left recovery in place. Something must have went wrong cause I didn't modify anything. Right now I have backside back on it but gonna restore it to stock before my warranty phone comes.

We don't know yet.

It may take some minor tweaks, it may take some major tweaks. I may work with it some this week so we can get some more info. If it doesn't need any specific drivers, we will be in good shape.

Unless I'm missing something the IHO rom's will work. Since it left my recovery untouched I restored my backup of Jerry's latest just to test and everything is working (3g, mms, SMS, tethering). I even tried flashing a 2nd time and still recovery was untouched except for an error about a log file. Right now backside is back on it and no problems. Baseband was v9 so I know radio was flashed

Well... I'm rather new here so I got a few questions.
1, why doesn't someone just throw su and superuser.apk into the update and flash that with a custom recovery?
2. Why don't we just pull the radio out and put it in its own zip for those who wish to test? (Cwm can flash radios on this device, right?)

The fact that it left your recovery intact shows the install was a failure, so we don't know what was and was not changed. Your results are null in terms of evidence to the contrary. For all we know, the file that tells what radio to display could be the only file that was changed.

What you suggest is possible and will likely be done soon, we can even make it flash and leave the recovery.

The problem is, what if you do this, and the radio is only compatible with that boot image. Now you are stuck on that rom, without the ability to overclock. At some point, yes that will be the next step once one of us has the time and desire to mess with it, I was planning to some time this weekend but got busy with Harmonia 2.

Noe of the devs are in a hurry because... Well, what is to be gained? Most of us are already running Gingerbread or ICS so the rom is nearly useless. The recovery certainly is useless. The radio could be a boon, or a complete bust, but we have a working radio as it is.

You don't lose the ability to tether. Just wanted to make that clear. I've successfully installed the security update and i can still tether. I use PDAnet flawlessly. Only problem besides no root is the usb notifications don't always appear in the notification area so i can select usb drive, for example. No biggie tho, just a quick reboot and it's fine.

Rom + su and without recovery flashing (i hope): http://www.mediafire.com/?re3ph2o91py07fu

radio: http://db.tt/T0MUAMiF

you might want to wait for a real dev to test it before you flash (also, the zips aren't signed. If one of the devs tests and approves, ill sign and post more "officially," or they can [I'm lazy])

I flashed the radio zip using the recovery posted on the iho wiki. Seemed to work. And cm9 is running flawlessly. I would still wait for Leslieann or jerryscript or someone with more knowledge than me to test.

If the radio doesn't work is there a way to revert back to the old radio? Wasn't that the problem people were having when they tried updating using sprints baseband?

Not that I know of... find the old one and flash if possible.

Do me a favor and see if Harmonia 1.7 still works, that would be a greater/more important test than CM9.

I will take a look at the flashers in a few, I have the radio one ready and was going to try that but haven't gotten to it.

When we say ability to tether we mean the built in that the original rom had.
All you needed was to enable it.

Newer roms lack the ability entirely unless you add something like PDAnet, which, while it works, is not the same or as good.

Anyone wanting to flash this to return to stock for whatever reason, Don't try using the touch recovery. It does not properly flash. Switch back to IHO recovery and got me back to stock in a jiffy. Now just hope my new phone coming isn't updated already cause I've been spoiled with all these nice roms and had forgotten how crappy stock was :)

Just registered to Androidcentral and looked in on this thread ...Just thought I would say my head is spinning  but i`ll be OK with a couple of pills and a nap :)

Rom + su and without recovery flashing (i hope): update.zip

radio (hope i got this right..): v9.zip - find the one by leslieann. I trust it more than mine (even tho they are almost identical...). Leslieann has much more experience with this device than I do

this one?

Please disregard the noob if I don't know what the heck I'm talking about, but based on LeslieAnn's awesome OV Reference Guide post, the older 2.2.1 phones have a different radio than the newer 2.2.2 phones. Is it possible that all this is doing is bringing the radios in line between the two flavors along with patching root holes? In which case it would be pointless for anyone with an unrooted new phone, but who wants to keep the ability to root at a later date, to install it? I only ask because I have a new phone and still haven't received any notification to update it.

Just a thought.
