Ok, so I screwed up and installed SECURITYFIX.APK on my phone. I got redirected to website, downloaded it and didn't notice. A while later, I saw it in my notifications and for some reason thought it was from Google Play as an update or something. Well, I installed it (like an idiot) and about 3 minutes after, I realized that I did something dumb :-[. So, I uninstalled it. I haven't restarted my phone yet but I wanted to know, how do I know if I screwed something up on my phone? I still have the apk and the url of the website. What do I do? :-\
I really don't want my info stolen. Can someone check the apk and tell me if it's something I should be worried about?

HELP!

A factory reset will unroot the phone?

I performed a factory reset from the setting menu (not the HBOOT menu (power + down vol)) and started the arduous task of setting my phone back up. Let me tell you right now, I will be performing backups from NOW ON. ;)
Anyway, short answer, it doesn't seem to have affected my ROOT status.:-$

I factory reset it, logged in to Market, and it immediately installed SuperUser for me. I then installed Root Checker and ran that. I got a message saying I have root access.
Sweet!:D

So what did I learn? Do backups. If you didn't mean to download it, don't install it. Period.
Do Backups. Uncheck "install from uknown sources" unless I PLAN to install from somewhere other than Google Play. Do BACKUPS!

I am glad/surprised you still have root, but yes the moral of the story is

DO BACKUPS

If you have root, spend a buck or two on Titanium and sync them to dropbox or drive or where ever. You never know when a catastrophic fail might come up

I think we've all learned this lesson the hard way at one point or another.

piizzadude is right about Titanium but you'll have to have "Unknown Sources" checked in order for it to work. If you try to install Titanium with it off it will ask you to turn it on or it won't work. An app worth it's weight in gold.

With titanium you can go from one rom to another within a half an hour, not including install time for the ROM

I got this as well, but I didn't install. I immediately navigated to my downloads folder and deleted the apk. I should be safe if I didn't install right? I mean.. it's not Windows.

Incase anyone wants to investigate or knows a way to report/shutdown malicious sites... here is where I got it.

I was using firefox for android.. did a google image search for the London Olympics logo.. then clicked on the one that has Lisa Simpson holding a saxophone.

Bah on malicious apps.

yeah your good. keep a lookout though in your notification bar for oddities. That is usually where they get ya nowadays

I had upper level VZW tech support (not tier 1) on the line when I used the reset option in settings (back in my Inc days). Did not get the full results and fix for a problem that we expected. Did another reset via the HBOOT screen, and the issue (whatever it was) was fixed.

I then learned that the two reset methods are different. From what I experienced, a true factory reset is done via HBOOT.

Just saying.

Perhaps I should have reset my phone that way.
I'm starting to wonder if I still have something hidden running on my phone that I shouldn't. I wish there was a way to tell.

So I said screw it and decided to kill two birds with one pebble. I went to HBOOT and did a factory reset and then installed ICS. I'm pretty happy with it so far but it's only day 1.
I also did a backup using clockwork mod after I got everything set up the way I wanted. Hopefully I won't screw this up again. We'll see.

Switch to Amon Ra. I am not sure they fixed everything in CWM. There is a nasty bug in there that will stop your phone from charging (there is an easy fox for it, but why go through the aggravation?)

There is a link in Mr. Smiths Rooting thread.

Will do BUT, what is Amon Ra, where do I get it, and who is Mr Smith? I can google Amon Ra for sure, but do you have a link for Mr Smith's thread? I'm a total noobfish on these forums.
