Selfie portraits don't look great?

Saw a comparison with Pixel 3 on Tom's Guide. I'm surprised by how poor the S10's selfie portraits are.

I don't think I've ever use the selfie camera on a phone. For me, it's all about the main rear shooter(s). Thankfully the S10 seems to shine there.
