Selling Note 9 for Pixel

I turn OFF Adaptive Brightness and set my brightness manually for the environment I'm in. When I go outside, I simply squeeze and say "Set brightness to 100 percent". I too have had no problem seeing my screen outside. Granted, it's not like the comfort of viewing indoors, but I still find it quite usable.

That's another way of doing it , but I can't remember where I read it , but if you leave it in auto brightness the screen gets it brighter nits then in manual mode .

Now THAT's interesting indeed. I'll google and see if I can find it.

I tried Adaptive Brightness but, for my old eyes, I like it just a bit brighter than what Adaptive thinks I should want.

Doesn't adaptive brightness remembers how bright you like the phone? So if you manually set the phone at 100% outside, it should automatically set it for you if you have it on.

appreciate the honesty on the P3XL.... just goes to show Google needs to step up and put out a better phone !!

I had a Google Pixel 2XL and mistakingly downgraded to a Note 9.i absolutely hated the note 9. It had the worst camera of any phone I've had in the past 5 years.

I went back out and got a pixel 2 XL and the note 9 sat on my nightstand. I recently traded that note 9 for Google pixel 3XL. I now have a Google pixel 3XL and a Google pixel 2 XL as a spare. I could not be happier with the 3XL.

Going from a Note 9 to a Pixel 2 XL would be more of a downgrade

May I ask what's so annoying about a bigger battery, 2GB more extra RAM, expandable storage, and twice as much base storage (128GB vs. 64GB) in the Note 9 vs. the pixels? I would understand if the stock android experience with some AI tricks and platform updates (note: not security updates at least with US carriers) are really what does it for people but it's definitely not value in hardware.

Nothing, and that's the struggle I'm having. I used to get tired of all the extra apps on my Samsung devices and I wanted updates but now that I've had a Pixel 2 for awhile and have been getting updates, its kind of meh. I would like to keep getting security updates, and it seems like that isn't a problem with most carriers now. I also kind of hate what google is doing with material design 2 and I don't care for the new gesture navigation that they are forcing on the P3 as well.

I was just going through the thread about the Pixel 3 camera and one of my gripes with the Pixel 2 has been the audio in videos and it isn't any better on the P3 and it seems the Note has that nailed to. I'm finding less and less reason to not get a Note 9 which, honestly with the trade in promo at T-Mobile right now is cheaper than the Pixel 3 and I don't think I'm losing anything. Plus, I watch a lot of video on my phone, usually at the gym when on the eliptical or treadmill, its how I get to watch my shows and this 5" screen is killing my soul lol. I looked at the V40, and at first it looks nice but when you stack it up next to the note 9, its inferior.

I love the note and I'm a huge Samsung fan! Even had the s9+. I just have wanted to try the Pixel for sometime, but never made the switch. I should have waited for the Pixel instead of buying the note 9.

If you are doing it for the camera, by all means. The Pixel 3 XL consistently takes amazing photos. I have the Note 9 and I've struggled with the camera. Blurry photos more often than not. I also encountered lags with the camera app, times where the shutter button didn't do anything and also it not saving a photo from time to time. I do understand that a camera update has been issued but it hasn't hit many phones yet. The Note 9 is an awesome phone but I admit I am enjoying the camera and simplicity of the Pixel 3 XL.

This is always a subjective topic but really weigh in what you need in a phone.

You can have my note 9 lol

I have the Note9 and also picked up a Pixel 3 XL. (buddy will buy my Note at close to full price) After having the 3XL for 4 days I'm not sure you will be overly happy switching. I'm still undecided. Great experience but I have had some RAM issues. Apps have just closed too quickly. If I'm listening to audio and I'm completing other tasks the audio app will shut down. If I go from app to app they are having to restart for too frequently.

I do love just about everything else. it's fast smooth and has a great screen.
How is the screen compared to the Note 9?

You can have my note 9 lol
What don't you like about it? It sounds like you just wanted to try something different or did I miss something?

Right now the note 9 is probably my leading choice if I'm going to make the switch with a pixel 3XL second but I'm waiting to see the OnePlus 6T before I make a final decision.

If camera were my #1 concern I would absolutely go with Pixel. In my case it isn't. For what it is Pixel is overpriced compared to Note

Yeah, that's really it. Just to try something new. It's really a great phone

If you're mainly interested in security updates, the Verizon S and Note series are only running behind Google like 3 weeks so that's not an issue. Of course, platform updates do run behind if that's your thing but a lot of "new" features that Google pushes out in platform updates have already been baked into the Samsung Experience UI (e.g., blue-light filter, picture in picture, etc.)

Key hardware advantages for the Note 9 vs. Pixel 3xl. I'm comparing base models.

- 128GB base storage (up to 512GB)
- 6GB RAM base
- Dual Cameras
- Expandable storage via micro SD card (up to 512GB extra)
- S-Pen
- 4000 mah battery
- headphone jack

Base model for Note 9 with 128GB Storage /6GB RAM starts at $999. Base model for Pixel 3XL with 64GB storage/4GB RAM starts at $899.

So the question is are the platform updates, faster UI experience, subjective camera advantages worth a $100 cost savings vs. a better screen, S-Pen, double the base storage, 2GB more RAM, expandable storage, and bigger battery? This is comparing base vs. base. A 128GB Pixel 3XL would be $999, same as a base Note 9.

All great points. This is why I'm keeping my Note 9

That's the idea I think but like adaptive battery it doesn't seem to work well. It's slow to adjust and is blooming in the dark and low light.

Man, you lay all that out and I have a tough time not getting one. I may have to just get one and try it for a few days.

May I offer a suggestion, get either one but since your curious about the note start with that first you have 14days to return it only down side you might pay restocking fee but if it don't work out you Kno definitely which way to go .

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. It might be worth a restocking fee just to try one out for a few days. My only concern is they are offering a good trade in deal at the moment and if I return it I would not have my pixel to fall back on. Guess I could keep it for a bit till I know what I want to do.
