So I semi bricked my phone. It shows the phone-exclamation point-comuter picture upon turning the phone on. I was reverting back to stock using Odin, and I'm not sure what went wrong. Last time I used Odin this didn't happen. I can't get my phone into download mode and don't know what to do. I tried holding the three buttons to put it into download, removing the battery whille holding vol up+down then putting it back in. Nothing. It won't do anything. What should I do?

are you doing all this while its plugged in?
try leaving out the battery plug the phone in and just press the down button or the 3 button method,, if nothing is working for you , you may want to buy or make a jig,,,

What build number do you have? Definitely try a jig, you can make one for like 99 cents.

Not to freak you out, but I had this same issue and even a jig wouldn't work. I ended up having to send it to Samsung. However, it seems like I'm the only one that this happened to, so you're probably ok.

This is not a brick. This is an easy one (should be). Read the thread for the Stock Odin load, and there are numerous posts about the screen you are talking about in the first 10-20 pages. The battery pull method SHOULD be working for you on this one if I recall. I have had that screen lots of times, and worse. Never needed a jig.

Reboot your computer to make sure your USB on the computer is not getting in the way. It can, and DOES, mess up your computer when weird stuff like this happens to your phone. Do the MS fix and reboot.

Pull the battery on your phone.
Open Odin
Connect the phone to rear USB.
Hold VOLUP+VOLDOWN while inserting battery.

I know you said you tried it, but that SHOULD work. Maybe the reboot? If not, read the original threads for the Odin one-click restore to stock, the first 20 pages or so should give you multiple people with that same screen that recovered.

The slightly worse state than where you are at, is no turn on at all, or red text. If you find yourself there, search for RED TEXT in that same Odin one-click thread, and the solution is there.

Rear USB? I have a laptop. But I tried everything mentioned. Still a no go. I ordered a jig, as I don't have the time to make one (HUGE college exam coming up, need to study). So I guess I'll make do with my old school G1 for a few days lol.

I think that means the ports in the back of your pc (if you have a laptop, it doesn't matter). Lucky you for having a backup phone, I have to go back to my Blackberry lol.

Laptop stays plugged in lol. If I don't, it dies within like 30. So I'm going to buy a Xoom, when the wifi only comes out. I'll use it for play and the occasional college paper, but thats about it. Then keep the laptop for flashing, and school work, iTunes (yes I have an iTouch), epsxe, etc... lol. I guess I could have made a jig, as I failed the exam anyways. But my jig is here today, so woohoo.

Classic sign of a 1010 build. Sigh. I really don't understand how different builds of the same phone can react so differently. I don't know if Samsung was trying to make things more secure or not, but if they were, they did a crappy job of it and just made things harder for the few of us that would needs download mode. And if they weren't trying anything shady, then how the hell to you mess that up? It's ridiculous that I can take three Captivates and set them next to eachother, and have three different processes to use Odin.

Sorry for the minirant lol, maybe I'm just upset because I have to know how to explain those three processes :p

1008 explains the need for a jig, but one click should still work.

Gah, see what I have to deal with? lol

Sort of. It doesn't last through Odin (which is an issue with the all-to-familiar Odin fail). Better than nothing I guess.

Maybe Samsung should provide free jigs to everyone with 1008 and 1010 builds. And sometimes 1012. And possibly 1009 and 1011. #@$% lol.

I've been swapping ROMs for a while now at it's become pretty routine. . . so, of course, today!!!

My problem was that ODIN simply quit after the lines about loading PIT and DO NOT DISCONNECT. Sometimes there is a small pause then it sets the pit file and continues. . . not today!

I thanked loraque in post #4 of this thread because that was the correct order for kicking ODIN to get it to continue.

A Jig would not have helped, since I was in download mode. It's always something! Shssss!!
