Send text via AT&T SIM card

So I have an iPhone 7 plus and connected through Bluetooth. Trying out the urbane 2nd edition this way before I activate the sim.

Can I send texts via the watch and sim on its own with out needing anything from my iPhone?

You should be. Use the included Messenger app. Make sure you selected watch number for sending text in the app.

Cool. Will the recipient see my number or the newly provided watch number?

Edit. Just found in settings. Can choose the displayed number.

If you choose the iPhone number, the text messages are sent out via your Phone and recipients saw your iPhone number. If you choose the watch number, the text messages are sent out via watch's own cell radio and will show up as your watch's number when received.

If you don't want to show your watch number in any case, you need to use NumberSync feature offered by AT&T. Once activated, your watch and phone will share the same phone number. However, not sure if it works with iPhone.

That's what I wanted to know. If numbersync works with iPhone to send text which I think is the only way to send text through the watch.

well, you just have to try. I know numbersync is supported on iPhone 6/7 because you need to activate it for wifi calling. However, NumberSync feature on watch needs to ask your phone to perform some actions during the activation process. Not sure if that even possible with iPhone. A lot of features of watch are automatically disabled when connected to iPhone.
