"sending failed" on 1 out of every 3 emails

Recently my note has failed to send emails with stunning frequency. It happens when I am on mobile and wireless - sometimes these are new emails, sometimes replies. All using my Verizon.net mailbox which runs on my desktop and phone. My husband, who has a note 3, is having the same problem. Anybody know how to fix this?
 
Does it fail on desktop and phone? Or just phone?
