Sending Group SMS with Nexus 4

Hi,
regarding the issue with sms converting to mms. The following steps stopped this potentially very expensive behaviour
1) Select "Mesages"
2) Select "settings" from the menu on top right hand corner
3) In the "MULTIMEDIA (MMS) MESSAGES" sub section ensure that the "Group messaging" radio button / option is NOT ticked.

For the record The third party app most of the folks are recommending is not a solution to the problem. If you require the 3rd party tool for extra features then fine, but it should not be a replacement for basic functionality that works in the native applications ....

I have just got my Nexux and tried to send a text to multiple recipients. I had to go through the alphabet to find each one.
I would have thought it would be just a matter of raising the contacts list and checking the names wanted and they would end up on the recipient list.

I think is what the op was talking about too. On my prior android phone, I could select the address book from a text message, then go through it and 'check' each number I wanted to include. It was simple and easy to send out a mass text that way. On the Nexus yes I can send multiple texts, but I have to manually type in each and every name.

I want to be able to scroll through my contacts and add whichever selected mobile #s to the text message, not start typing in letters and selecting. That is terribly time-consuming and inefficient. I don't want to create a group. It doesn't matter to me whether message is sms/mms, because either way I can find no simple method to select multiple recepients!

Ohh. btw, can you guys help me?
I really need to know how to text everyone at once.

Greetings, new member here. I have a question which I haven't seen posted anywhere else and would be grateful for help with.

I run a youth football team and often need to send the same text message to a large group of people about fixtures, training, postponements etc. With my old HTC Desire this was simple - just select the group recipients, write the text and fire away. With my new Nexus 4 (which I am happy with otherwise), I cannot find a way to do this simple task. It can do many amazing things but this is an everyday, easy function which appears to be missing from this handset.

I have tried using GroupText but I often get errors and generic failures - it won't tell me which numbers have failed so I end up having to contact everyone individually to check they got the message. This is time-consuming and annoying but it's important people get the messages I send so they don't turn up early on a wet and cold Sunday morning for a football match which has been called off!

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to send group texts using the stock app or is there another reliable app I can use to perform this function?

All help gratefully received, thank you.

Hi,

Probably this is pretty late in the topic, but I just sort of solved it for my self.

I hated the idea of using second hand app to send group texts, so I did the following:

1. Go to Contacts
2. Search needed key word (probably works only if you have people with binding key words like ''John Dancer/Singer'')
3. When search gives you all the contacts corresponding with this key word (''dancer'') click on little people icon on the left side and then on the pencil for editing
4. When contacts profile editing opens scroll down to Groups and ad to those already existing or click Create New Group Name (or similar name)
5. The boring part is to do this for every single contact person in your address book
6. But after that, when typing sms To: line, you just need to start writing the name of the group and then a drop-down window appears where you can select (click grey people icons on the right side of the name) contacts you wan to add to mailing list

Hope this helps.
