Sending MobileMe e-mails

Howdy y'all....

I just received an Eris for Christmas. It is great, but I am having one problem.

I can receive emails from my mac.com account, but I cannot send any e-mails out.

I contacted Apple and they said my settings were correct, but I keep getting an error message that states: "Warning. Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information. Your server is not responding." when I go into the mac.com email account settings.

The options for the incoming server settings are such...

Protocol:
Email address:
Username:
Password:
IMAP server:
Security type:
Server port:

The options for the outgoing server settings are such....

Username:
Password:
SMTP server:
Security type:
Server port:

Could anyone please help me out? Thanks. Peace and love.

My Eris sends mac mail fine with the following settings:

Incoming settings

Protocol is IMAP
Email address is xxx@mac.com
Username is xxx@mac.com
password
IMAP server is mail.mac.com
security type SSL
Server Port 993


My outgoing server settings are:

Login required is checked
Username is xxxx@mac.com
password is entered
smtp server is smtp.mac.com
security type none
server port 587
