Sense 5

Considering the Butterfly and the DNA are mainly the same, I would assume it is safe to say we will be getting sense 5. But with HTC track record.... we could set screwed.

I would say don't expect to get it. I mean our phones work perfectly fine (for the most part haha) with sense 4+. And I'm willing to bet that if people EXPECT sense 5 then they will be disappointed and start to nit pick things they were fine with otherwise. The way I see it is you can't be disappointed or angry if you never expect any more than you have to begin with

I would guess it will more likely be Verizon's fault if we don't get the update.

This depends a lot on whether or not Verizon gets a version of the One in the near term. The Butterfly and DNA are different enough in hardware and kernel that, much like the different between a GSM Nexus and Verizon Nexus, it may be 1. More difficult and time consuming to make the update and 2. Difficult to get Verizon to support it and push it out. If Verizon decides to truly treat this as a flagship device and does not release a subsequent HTC hero device within the next 6 months or so, the chances are better of getting it sooner, if at all. If they do release subsequent, I'd assume that the line about "some Sense 5 features" may be more applicable. The Thunderbolt and Rezound are also similar to this concept, in that both got screwed by the presence of the other and the Rezound got releases, but they were buggy and had support issues from day 1, while Thunderbolt owners felt like we were straight up abandoned by Verizon.

If upgrades are a serious issue in your satisfaction, I fully recommend the Nexus lines. Since going Nexus and having the much bigger and better MOD community I've never been happier with not being dependent on OEMs or carriers for updates.

Seems like none of the handsets are updating on verizon anymore. Even the nexus is 4? Updates behind now.

I am sure it will be updated. Lord knows when. I feel like the gnex was behind because of the S3. Makes sense for VZW to update this phone even if its in 6months. My option is always root any Verizon phone. The devs will have a port way before VZW

Not sure, I've never owned a Gnex for more than an hour or so without rooting it, have been on the latest updates within hours of code release since Dec 2011. Project Elite on my GNex absolutely flies and battery life is sickeningly awesome. My wife's is on CM10.1 4.2.2 and super sexy, but battery life is merely superb. Verizon's updates are so hit or miss that for us custom ROM's are not optional, but I'm the nerd that wants to try every new feature on release day. Sorry to thread high-jack, going back to my cave.

Also, Dev's have had ports running since mid January on the DNA with Sense 5 and I know meejay has a working version over somewhere on XDA that is almost release ready. Give it a week or two and it'll probably be flashable from a variety of kanged sources.

I agree with you that we need to be okay with what the phone has when we buy it, and you're right; it works perfectly fine for me as well. But I'd also be happy if Verizon decided to give us Sense 5, even though I don't think they will.

Exactly. Big Red just doesn't seem interested in passing along updates, and I have zero faith in them in this area.

DNA.jpgIt can and will run sense 5 once Verizon decides to push it to us. Here is the proof positive.

Before they take a year or two to give us sense 5, I hope verizon first pushes out an update to fix this confounded sim card error...

Every loves to blame Verizon when software does not come out for a phone. Trust its not their fault. They only get the software the manufacturer provides. Sure the test, test, and test again and some times the software does not meet their requirements and they never send it out, but ultimately its up to the manufacturer to provide the updates

I'm sure we will get it sans blink feed as to not jar the user experience (probably). I think it's more of a matter of when we'll get it. Get ready for a long wait!

If HTC is truly wanting to get back in the game and win market some market shares updates couldn't hurt. More people might purchase HTC devices if they knew they would be well supported.

I don't care what kind of phone you have, that's not how I judge someone's worth or intelligence.

There is no reasn that sense 5 couldn't be pushed out in 60 days if HTC already has it running on the DNA. If you have good programmers working on the project you shouldn't have bugs to work out in the first place same with the SIM card issue. The SIM card issue should not take more that 30 days for a couple of good programmers to fix once on the case. Verizon IMO just could care less. If HTC designed the DNA for Verizon there is no reason in hell that the phone and SIM shouldn't communicate flawlessly by now. Someone is dropping the ball pre launch you can't tell me they didn't have this happen in testing before it hit the stores. I find Verizon loves to play dumb when it comes to wonky handsets.

I just have to say this one more time. If you own any Verizon Android phone . just root it. Find a quality dev read ROM reviews. And enjoy your phone. Does it solve everything? No but will they stay up late and make sure a fix is on the way? Yes. With anything there will be problems.

This is the very reason that made me wish I got superCID to unlock my bootloader to root before the update. IDK why I never pulled the trigger on it.

I know and agree which is one reason I rooted my Bolt, but I don't want to root my DNA right now. It works great, and I'll probably leave it stock until we don't get the upgrade to key lime pie. But again, you're right, so I promise I won't complain about not getting updates! :p

Out of curiosity, are there any ROMs that remedy the Sim card issue? If so I'm jumping on that.
