Sensors using too much battery?

I have a HTC One X, rooted, currently running the stock ROM but with a custom kernel (Alex kernel).
As most people know, the HOX is not that great when it comes to battery life so I tried doing something about it. I wont bore you with the details, but if you'd like to know what I did and think that may help you too, feel free to ask me since I'm trying to keep the post as short as possible.

I discovered that the light sensor of the phone is always active, even though I disabled auto-brightness and I haven't been in any phone call since the phone was turned on)
Also, the acceleration sensor recently has begin to show as active (even with auto-rotate disabled and whatnot)

Is this normal? Are the sensors supposed to be always active or are they being used by a renegade app? (In this case, as you can see from the screenshot, the system itself perhaps?)
