Sent back the Nexus... feel...

I'm not a VZW or GN user, but maybe the reason the Rezound is the best-selling device is because VZW actually markets it. I have yet to see one Nexus ad. I stopped at a VZW coprorate store yesterday to check out the GN and had to walk around the store twice before I found it. It was lumped in at the end of a group of phones, with no posters anywhere, just the small price sign next to the phone itself. It's no wonder that only enthusiasts know about it.

I think the Rezound is everywhere because they have a deal with Dre Beats.

i'm sending my nexus back in..the color banding on the screen and the battery life nailed the coffin for me...ICS is everything i couldve asked for in Android, but the hardware just didnt do it for me....maybe next year

I agree that the battery life on this phone does suck but I have until Jan 14th or whatever to return it, I'll hold out until then in hopes a magical update comes along. The good thing I've also noticed though with the battery is that it seems to charge very fast.

I'm having sour feelings towards this phone also for a number of reasons, just hoping Google gets updates out fast before return policy expires. I've now had a few phone calls where the person on the other end said that as the call goes on the call quality becomes worse. On my end I was hearing crackling sounds, random beeps and other various obnoxious sounds. Was really down about this. The phone itself also just feels choppy and I don't understand why, I'm hoping it's just because it's ICS and it's so new that things need ironed out. I can't stand how big the dock bar is and also the Google bar at the top. With those two it makes all the icons and widgets smaller, who thought this was a good idea again at Google??

I commented on the google bar in an earlier thread and was attacked so badly the thread had to be closed. Glad to see others voicing similar concerns. Try the Nova Launcher (at XDA).....it does work well and removes the bars and makes the space usuable. I was hoping on release they would change their mind about making that dead space (they didn't) or maybe making the soft buttons sizable (no again). I don't have any choppiness issues but there are some widgets you should probably avoid (e.g., bookmarks which slowed down my X but don't know about the GNex).

I have owned 2 droid x since launch day his and hers.

Let me tell you this. Anyone comparing the dx to the nexus is either high or insane.
Its just crazy talk.

The camera on the dx is terrible. And no rom. Or amount of hacking will help it.

U know as I sit here and read.........
My thoughts are going this way.
N mind you keep your torches in your pockets>
But here goes, while my intial impression with the Gnex
was less than stellar. This is where my thoughts are going.
There may be signal issues with the antenna,
call reception may not be as good as the Razr....
But as I sit around thinking about the features of the
Gnex. Such as the settings in the developer area.
Also after going in and reading the hacks and roms etc.
I got soooooo jealous because although I am not an
uber geek. I do like to with great anxiety mess around my phone.
I also do realize that the processor in the Gnex is slightly better
than the Razrs so when everything is fine tuned this phone will friggn scream.

Forget the arguments over this or that. But the biggest thing about this
phone is to do what you want with it...........
With that being said I'm gonna shlep my rear into a vz store and
get the GN back. I it is better to have an not want it, than to want it and not have it.

I had the same issues with the screen -very annoying vertical lines- if i dropped the brightness below 50%. Went and got it replaced at the the verizon store this morning and I can tell you that the faint lines are not normal. The replacement looks great even on auto brightness (still gets a little grainy but no freakin lines)
Signal strength is definitely not as good as the droid x it replaced however its not that much worse and i have not noticed dropped calls even in my basement tv room.

If you are not happy with it go to a verizon store and check out another. I'm starting to think that verizon shipping these phones with absolutely no safe packing in the box is causing them to get beat the hell up during shipping or something

Also if you are complaining about things like google search bars, the size of docks, widgets, or anything else software you are definitely not using your nexus the way it was meant to be

Just wanted to point something out to the OP about the bad signal. You mention that you're using a network extender. I was having the same issues with mine... so I've been running some tests using 3G at home and 3G outside. Turns out that the GNex isn't playing well with the Verizon network extender... everywhere else is fine though. I'm assuming there will be a fix for this sometime down the line but its not the phone itself that has a bad signal... its the phone running off of the 3G Network Extender.

The only thing I'm really concerned about is battery life. I haven't had many of the issues others are having. I'll see what happens over the next week with the battery to decide if I should go back to the Rezound. Even though the Rezound battery is all that better, just doesn't make sense to me to spend more money for another device and have the same concern.

It shouldn't have been setup this way is the issue. I know I can change it but who would actually want to have it this way?

Agreed, but people should also be able to get reasonable use out of their devices without have to toggle throughout the day. Sure, it's easy in most cases and doesn't take much but a lot of people don't forget and just hate having to toggle manually. For instance, why isn't the GPS initiated by itself when I open Navigation? Instead it tells me GPS isn't on and I need to turn it on. Whereas on iOS GPS is off and turns on by itself when an app is opened. Just simple stuff like that would make things a lot better for users. I still wonder why I should have to kill my data connection when the screen is off to preserve battery life. I just think Android needs to take even further steps for better power management and some things is just a no-brainer.

Actually, the dropped calls were while on a tower out in town. Should have gotten at least -93 dB or under and was showing -120 dB. It never dropped a call on my 3GNE, just never let them come through.

I haven't had any issues with my nexus. not one radio issue... nothing. In fact I love ICS and feel bad for people not buying or returning nexus devices.

Some may disagree, but I consider having a good signal as the most important feature in a smart phone. The camera on the GN just sux. I know it's not a DSLR, but like the saying goes, the best camera is the one you have with you. The camera I have with me is going to be my cell phone camera 99.9% of the time. The volume is also a big issue for me. The GN is nowhere near as loud as my X. The navigation volume IMO is very low compared to other phones I've used.

I guess I'm just disappointed with the GN. I was expecting more.

The camera aspect I disagree; you have way more options with the GN camera.
Go into settings and play with the exposure, also if u are indoors try some of the white balance settings....
For me the camera is definitely a strong point

I think the radios are fine. I haven't had any problems with not having signal. The software, I'm sure, is the problem. I'm constantly dropping data. Sometimes the 3G and 4G icons will disappear and I can't access data. Sometimes I'll have the 3 and 4G icons and data doesn't work, yet I always have at least 1 bar of signal.

I also have an issue with switching from CDMA/LTE to CDMA and vice versa. When I do that, I drop signal while it switches and it takes a couple minutes for my data to be restored. It's really annoying.

I'm really hoping my signal issues will be addressed in the next update because it's getting really frustrating to use this phone sometimes.

I have this happen too, and also when jumping from wifi to either 3G or 4G. It can take 5 minutes for the data signal to pick up. Is it that bad for others?
