September 2018 Update

The guys at xda are saying that there is a new Platform Tools software version too. For anyone who sideloads the update I would make sure you grab the Platform Tools as well.

What does that get you?
If your phone's on Pie, you should be using a version of the Android SDK that matches the phone's API level (28 for Pie, I think). If there's a mismatch, ADB sometimes just fails. That's why I use Android Studio even though I'm not a developer. Whenever it opens, it checks for updates.

Just got mine a little bit ago. 61.2 MB and installing now.

I just clicked the "check for updates" button and it installed OTA - I was surprised!

Mine is installing. Quite slowly, for only a 61.2 MB update. Interesting.

Android Studio still doesn't work on API28 - you create an app, then downgrade the app to 27, or you won't see anything you drop on it.
@Theot:

After running *nix since who remembers when (version 4?), I can't run Linux without at least su (although I'd prefer sudo). I feel like I'm crammed into a little cage. Every time you want to run something you can't - you need root for that. (And I run MCS, so I can leave the charger in after the battery gets to 80% without worrying about it. When it gets down to 40% it will start charging again. (Aside from being able to run Doze, Greenify, and a few other handy little utilities.)

Aside from the fact that Google still has to send me at least one more phone (fingerprint scanner went on the brand new one they replaced the bricked one with - and the 2 replacements I've gotten so far had exactly the same fingerprint scanner problem - the last return got to them about 7 hours ago), and the replacements come with the March update, so I have to update them anyway, before even checking the fingerprint scanner (customer support's wishes), so I'll wait.

Hmmm, usually get it right off, still nothing yet for my unlocked P2.

Installing now. On PIE. size for me is 49.2. Interesting. wonder why the size difference?

Believe me, I wouldn't know how to build an app if my life depended on it. I only meant that the SDK manager part of Android Studio is up to Platform 28.

I was mashing the update button on my 2XL on Pie. Just read that you need to opt out of the beta manually to get updates...I went to the beta enrolment site, oped out, and hit update and its downloading and installing now for me.
