I'm getting pretty decent speeds when I'm out at a park. Check this out:



This is on T-Mobile with the Note 20 Ultra. But yes when I'm in a building on in certain parts of town, I do get pretty lame speeds on the order of 5-15 Mbps.

Tmobile has the most coverage for now and I am enjoying it all can't go wrong. Where I live there is not Verizon or AT&T 5G coverage at all. Some can complain but at least TMO has coverage over the other two carriers.

But soon. Maybe end of the year or early next year the other two will have nationwide low band with DSS etc to make it a bit better speeds than lte and broader range like T-Mobile’s. I’m hoping mainly that T-Mobile deploys it’s mid band here much faster and Verizon activates it’s UWB here and has a low band presence here and lastly the same for AT&T but they have sparse AT&T 5g/5g+ here or so they say it’s sparse

I know right . Raleigh NC. I’ve found a few more 5g+ sites here no thanks to AT&T though. They are not being transparent like T-Mobile and Verizon (MAPS) are doing. I found some other sites that show just ‘5g’ and not ‘5g+’ (as it does on my phone) but when I run a Speedtest while connected to them my phone says ‘5g’ but running Speedtest it says lte. Is that how low band works? Idk. But I’ve gotten off track. LOVING THESE SPEEDS

It won't show 5G unless you're actually connected to a 5G network.

My ultra says 5g only when connected to 5g+ and also shows it on SpeedTests but on other sites it says 5g only but speed tests show LTE. Idk why

Speed test on my N20U on my way to work... NON-5G.

Of course it varies but happen to be lucky in my area (Ft. Laud/Boca) where I need it. I haven't upgraded by data plan to 5G yet. But I would hope to see better speeds than that once I'm on.

AT&T. Stuck for another 30 months with my $300 N20U upgrade. But I've been with them when my phone use to say Cingular so I'm probably not going anywhere anyways lol.

I wouldn't expect 5g to be good right now. My friend that works at ATT told me to not change my plan to a 5g plan, its not worth it yet.

Wow that's a lot better speeds than on the west coast of Florida, I'm in Fort Myers and I cringe if I see the 5G (actual 5G) icon on my phone because it's practically useless, my best true 5G speeds are around 6MB download and about 209kb upload. On 4G LTE or 5Ge I'm good but of course AT&T did not give us the option to turn off 5G. I have to turn Airplane mode on and then back off to force this thing to get off 5G. They really need to push out an update to have the option to turn 5G off because it renders the phone useless for data when it locks on a 5G tower.

Maybe try and see if it's possible to set a Bixby Routine so it does it automatically for you every time it hits 5G

I am going to have to try that, I haven't ever set up a Bixby Routine for anything. Need to play around with it and try, thanks for the suggestion.

While watching the KC NFL game, a Verizon commercial came on claiming that 5G is in LA.

The 5G signal has not turned on since I got the phone.

I gotta be honest... these speeds in the hundreds are good, but when I was with T-Mobile a year or two ago on their 4G LTE network, I was getting speeds in the 150s-200s. To see 5G bring in 200s-300s... that's disappointing to me when all the marketing talk is like how it will be 1.5G speeds and more. I know that was a fallacy once a network starts to get congested, but with the amount of 5G phones out there - I would think that congestion isn't an issue now and you should be seeing speeds near 1G.

Even when ATT activated 4G LTE in NYC when it was still fairly new, speeds were coming in at like at least close to 100 and over before it got congested.

5G still being new - I expect a lot better. In fact, my speed tests with ATT on their supposedly real 5G - I get anywhere from 10 (lol) to 60. I I think I hit 115 once or twice. It definitely must be on the real 5G network because I've seen the speedtest read LTE on my non 5G phones, whereas it reads 5G with my Note 20 U.

I just upgraded my AT&T data plan to the 5G last week. Only got it working on my N20U today after working with AT&T chat because it looks like I needed a newer SIM. Before it would only show 5Ge where my daughters 12 Pro was showing 5G so worked with AT&T to get it sorted out.

After that I got a chance to do a couple of speed tests near a few MMWave mini towers installed recently outside my neighborhood and a bit confused after my tests...

Below is a shot of the mini towers installed down my street. A couple of towers about 1000 feet apart and a couple of more a mile down and those two are also a couple 1000 feet apart.

The confusing part... When I am running a test maybe 100 feet away from a tower from my car... the display shows 5Ge and NOT 5G. And when I run tests right next to them, I'm hitting 300+ Mbps every time.

I drive away and I'll go into areas where it just says 5G only. But I run a test and they are terrible... 27-50... < 75 Mbps range. But I go back to those towers, phone changes to say 5Ge, run a couple of speed tests, and get 300+ Mbps.

Is Millimeter Wave 5G for AT&T suppose to show 5Ge on the phone?? I think one of the AT&T techs I spoke to (took a few to get my issue fixed) actually told me if I saw 5Ge in some areas it could be actually 5G but I kinda blew that off thinking he was just trying to get me off the phone. Is MMWave 5G a mix using 4G and that's why the odd display??

Just an interesting find my first day with 5G.

At home it always showed 5Ge until today after the new SIM. Now it shows 5G but not impressed with the "5G" only speeds from home. :-\

BTW... this is all happening in North Fort Lauderdale, FL area for those that was wondering.
