I'm not sure what is happening, but last night I powered my Axon 7 completely off with the battery at 100%. This morning I noticed it was on, very hot and the battery at 77%. So, it turned on by itself and proceeded to drain the battery. I powered it off again, set it on a table. It turned itself back on and is now stuck at the "ZTE powered by Android" screen. Holding the volume down and power button does nothing. I had a buyer on Swappa and had to cancel the listing. Of course, I'm past 30 days with Newegg so I will have to send it to ZTE. No one else has so far posted a similar problem , but i just wanted people to be aware if yours does something similar. I'll post later how the exchange goes with ZTE if anyone is interested.

Correct me if I'm wrong but what I can get from your post is that the phone got very hot and the battery drained a lot more than it should. Sorry but that to me sounds just like typical behavior when a rogue app, and a very bad at it, is causing havoc. Did you check the battery stats to see if you could see it there? I don't doubt that ZTE will replace your phone but to me it wasn't even necessary, trying to pinpoint the issue would be the best, the same can happen to your replacement if it was a rogue app and you end up installing it again.

I agree as it sounds like a rogue app as the phone has been fine for a month. About a week ago I powered the phone completely off. When i turned it back on a week later the battery was completely depleted. That was my first clue something was wrong. I charged it up to 100% and all seemed well for a few days. I did a factory reset yesterday as I was going to sell the phone. As I said, this morning I was surprised to find the phone had turned itself on from a completely powered off state and was actually soft-bricked. In my haste to try and fix the issue, I admit I forgot to check the battery manager. By doing the 3 finger salute, I finally got it to boot up. I've been using the phone all day today adding back apps one by one. So far, so good and battery manager reports "no power-consuming apps". I tried to install Watchdog Task Killer that I use on my Samsung and LG phones, but it immediately crashed upon installation and I had to remove it. I guess MiFavor doesn't like task killers at all. I'm going to power it off later tonight and see if it powers itself back on during the night. I have had rogue apps heat up a phone before, but never wake up a phone that had been powered off completely. I'll see how it does between now and Monday and call ZTE if it happens again i guess.

Remember that this one of the few phones that have the feature to schedule power off and power on instances so if some rogue apps corrupt that feature or is involved with it somehow it can explain the unexpected power on.

I agree that it's very strange and if seems you have done your work on trying to find and fix the issue, I was just pointing out the rogue app theory as you didn't mention it in your OP. Like I said, you should be good worth ZTE with a replacement after explaining everything you have explained here, good luck.

Thanks for your help, Erasat. I didn't realize the Axon 7 could be scheduled to turn off and on. I did indeed find the settings for that, but they are set to off. Hopefully the factory reset took care of any offending apps.

Never heard of a rogue app. Interesting

Any bad coded app or simply an app that its intentions is to cause havoc can create such a mess that sometimes a factory reset is the only way to fix it, kind of like a malware or virus on a computer. A lot of those apps are installed via 3rd party methods and even some of them get to the Play Store and are downloaded thousands of times before Google find out about it and remove it.

It can happen. I reinstalled an app that worked on my HTC One M7 onto my Axon A7. The app constantly crashed the A7. It was the only app out of about 15 or so that gave me any trouble.
