Serious doubts about S5

I did a search on Google for "Perfect Phone" and this is what I got:

404-file-or-director-not-found.png

Along with many people just wish they had gone to 4GB of RAM. But I'm sure even then we would leave so many applications open that it wouldn't make a difference and likely drain the awesome battery life. I really enjoy my S5 and I have had it since launch.

Don't hesitate, it is the best phone out there for the next 2 weeks... until something more expensive and awesome comes out. /technology

I've had the S5 for about 3 weeks and have used it hard during that time. I have installed the Smart Launcher Pro, but cohld have lived with Touchwiz. I've also installed a dozen other apps including a keyboard and all is working smooth as silk.

I added a 64Gb SD card and flickrfolio is writing my flickr photos to it. (I have Android 4.4.2)

It’s all good here for me. Just discovered usage for the slow motion video at some bicycle races over the weekend – it’s got more tricks than I may ever get around to putting into use.

Personally, i feel the GS5 and M8 forums have gotten overloaded with random trolls starting "hate posts" , whether it be a mild "too many problems, im switching to "x" phone" or just ignorant "this phone is stupid, its (insert feature here) sucks"

Thats just me though, i've only been following both phones since the rumor threads started ....

I agree with this post.

As a moderator of another forum that is tightly controlled against Trolls and Evil Doers who solely exist to cause trouble, it is easy for me to spot a thread that has been started simply to cause trouble and dissension.

This forum's base is huge and moderating it is mostly done by "reactive" rather than "proactive" steps.

Moderators are folks who give up a huge amount of their personal life to help keep forums clean and productive. They are not paid to do this, they do it because of an internal desire to try and keep their "favorite forum" useful.

All forums, regardless of topic, exist to help the users learn more about their interest. Some forums develop a "family feel" where the users get together at events (mine does), but most forums are simply a meeting place to try and find help to fix a problem.

Folks who have a problem find a forum and the solution to their problem and then they vanish. Why? Because mostly their device has been working just fine and will continue to do so. They just had a single problem come up and they needed help until they learned what they needed to know. then off they go.

Anyone can help moderate a forum. Just use the Check Point icon to report a post or thread that has gone awry.

Off my moderator's soapbox now.

I have said it in another thread, and I'll say it again. I really do not understand the issues with lag some people are having . Six seconds to open the camera app as one poster said is crazy! Not that I don't believe what he said, but something clearly must be wrong there. My phone takes exactly 2 seconds to open from the home screen and 3 from the lock screen which is acceptable to me, but maybe not to someone else I suppose. I'm also wondering if these lag problems are to do with carrier bloatware or something else that carriers are installing as I have the unlocked international model. But I have absolutely no issue with the performance of the phone. Its not the fastest, but its dam fast. Maybe we can start a poll to kind of localize which phones are having these problems. I don't think that these issues represent the majority of people with the phone. I have read many reviews and not one have complained about lag. Some reviewers complain about the aesthetics of TW, or some say they would have preferred different build materials which to me are all just opinions. But none about lag. I only see forum posters complain about lag. If someone can point me to one i'll gladly admit I'm wrong. At the end of the day you should really go check out the phone at the store.

From Gizmodo:

"Despite the crisper fit and finish, Samsung still hasn't fixed some of the deeper software problems. The phone is running the 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801, which means it should by rights be the fastest phone you can buy. It's not. The S5 still suffers from stutters and lag during operations as simple as scrolling between home screens, opening your app drawer, and even loading apps. It's even worse in some of Samsung's own apps. Samsung's Gallery app (which you need to use if you're going to take advantage of some of special photo modes) is so slow and buggy and its behavior is so unpredictable that it'll make you want to give up on it all together."

Well...Was wrong there lol. Really disagree with that reviewer though. I don't experience lag between home screens and I really don't know what he's talking bout when he says the gallery is "buggy"....Most well know sites like Phonearena, Gsmarena, Android authority, Mobile Techreview or Youtube techie's like MKBHD and Erica Griffin Haven't mention any lag. (Especially Erica that gal is picky!!). Anyhoo

Not a single problem on mine and what's nice its android if there some finniky software bug in the keyboard use a third party keyboard for example

Look man, there are WAY more people who have no problems than those that do. Those that do have problems are just more vocal. And that's not abnormal or bad, it's just human nature.
You don't go out of your way to tell your waiter the food is fine, but you will if the food stinks.
The S5 fits exactly what I need, but it may not be right for you. But don't rely on the 1% that has issues. Half of those issues were brought on by the people owning them doing silly things.

I am due to upgrade my phone later this month, but after reading these threads over the last two weeks I think I will wait.
There seems too many faults on the phone, and Samsung do not seem to care.
Pity because I was really looking forward to getting the S5.

Just get a different phone. If you're waiting for the S6 or Note 4 you're wasting your time. Get the HTC M8, Sony Z2, Moto X, etc. Why are you stuck on Samsung?

Thanks for all the replies, have only used iphones in the past.
I will keep the S5 in the list of possibles.
Thanks again.

The OP made it clear he/she "was really looking forward to getting the S5".

Lets keep the discussion civil please. If there is a problem with a post then please report it so the Mod team can take a look, attempting to resolve it yourself is not advisable.
Thanks.

I don't think I've ever seen any of these tech sites (Verge, BRG, Gizmodo, etc...) talk bad about Apple. According to them, everything Apple does is 'Magical'!! I see why many call them (Apple) the media darlings of the tech industry.

I have had many phones including the popular iPhone and none of them can compare to the S5. Best feature for me is the great battery, I don't even carry a charger anymore. Try the phone and if you don't like it return it.

I see reviews like this, then go to my phone, and I am not experiencing any of these issues. My apps open fast, no issues with my gallery, and still don't see the lag thing. People expect way to much from phones now days. The improvements are going to be minor now, not the leaps and bounds of the past. Those days are over.

I guess that you are one of the lucky ones, which I'm sure is the majority. But, obviously the S5 has some lag issues, or customers and reviewers wouldn't mention it.
