So my Pixel 5a dies without warning (subject of another post). I was using an ESIM from Mint Mobile. But planning ahead, I had a backup OnePlus 7T (SIM card only) and a new, unused Mint Mobile SIM card. So, I should be all set if I need to use my backup 7T if something happens to the Pixel, right? WRONG!!!
MINT CANNOT ACTIVATE A NEW, UNUSED SIM CARD ON AN EXISTING ACCOUNT!!! THEY HAVE TO SEND YOU A PREPROGRAMED SIM CARD IN THE MAIL. 5-7 days! I would be unable to use my Cell number for up to 7 days!!! If you use an ESIM with Mint you cannot have a backup, older phone that doesn't use an ESIM. Horrible service!
I went to Tello because I did have an unused Tello SIM card. Ported my number to TELLO entered the new SIM card ID and was up and running in about 15 minutes. I am currently arguing with Mint about crediting back my unused time.
This is another case where the push to ESIMs is still full of pitfalls. Thanks for nothing Apple.
