Seriously torn between HTC One and Galaxy S4

Oppo has no LTE, runs 4.1.1 with support and updates totally unknown.

I had not caught that on the specs. Ug. Yeah.As far as the other ones, I think updates are supposed to be more timely.

I also just found a comparison chart. The S4 has 8 Cores while the One has 4 Cores. I'm guessing that this doesn't necessarily make a difference?

Only four cores run at any one time. One four-core group is for power-saving. There's a slight advantage, but not enough real world advantage for me to care.

I looked at the feature sets. Hardware wise, most users won't notice a difference. How do you use a smartphone? What do you want from it? How often do you think you would really swap a battery?

I chose the One over the S4 because:

• as a soon to be dad, the Zoe and Highlights feature and the camera for indoor shooting just tickled me.
• I have been victim of bottom or rear speakers for so long now (cupping the back so people can hear something) so the speakers were a plus
• I just don't need the SD slot with 32GB (honestly, how many songs can you really have in your playlist rotation...?)
• gesture features on the S3 were pretty useless for me (and how I use a smartphone) so I doubt I would honestly use the S4 gestures outside of showing folks said features for fun.

So look at how you plan to use the phone, the feature sets and find the fit for you. Good luck!

Which features do you think you will use more? That's what I based my decision on. The dual front speakers,the Zoe feature and the build quality. Plus it helped that HTC gave me $100.00 back for a POS HTC Status I had. So either $249.00 for the 32 gb S4 or $199.00 -$100.00 =$99.00 for the One. I don't think you could go wrong with either phone

I chose the One over the S4, I kept having to pull the battery w the S4..freezes, unexpected errors and this or that app stopped working. Coming from an iPhone 5 it REALLY annoyed me. The S4 magic wore off fast for me if a top phone performed this way and from what I hear it's common w Samsung devices. I've had the One for a week and plan on keeping..flawless, no freezes or errors, my iPhone 5? Collecting dust on my bookshelf, that is how much I love the One. In passing HTC does have issues w quality here and there (dead pixels, bad usb connector) I was lucky to get a perfect One as many in the forums have. I say test both during your 30 or 15 day period and decide. I don't say this but after trying android phones for att and Verizon for the past 3 yrs, this is the first android phone to replace my iPhone and make me an android convert permanently..that is how much the One reprogrammed me to android

That said....I have the One & I'm sending back. I like it....it's just not $479 nicer than my Nexus 4.

You can't really go wrong with either, but I like the One better. You may have totally different desires for a gadget, but to me there are a few things that just make the One the better choice.

• Dat build quality
• Zoe - Samsung throws a lot of S/W at you in the S4, but nothing quite beats a quick tap to switch to Zoe and get photos and videos that way. I tried the "Erase" feature on the S4 after seeing the commercial and couldn't help but think to myself, "A Zoe is faster and more flexible while accomplishing a similar task."
• "Ultrapixel" - Dark places are the bane of my existence if I'm trying to take a photo of friends in a bar or other dark area. I get that in other settings it won't always take the best picture, but it will still take a damn fine one. I was lucky enough to try out a One in both lighting conditions and it did not disappoint.
• Did I mention the build quality? The thing just feels good.

That being said, it's always good to figure out if the feature set of the different phones will appeal to you first and whether you accept the various drawbacks to the phones

Does the battery/micro SD feel like a big draw to you (coming from an iPhone, this might)
Does the feel or the durability matter more to you?
Do you need a good camera to take photos in the day or night?
Zoes or the S4 equivalent something that would appeal to you?
Do the speakers matter (or do you use headphones anyway)?
Do the default apps matter to you (this matters if you don't care to spend on keyboards, launchers, messaging apps - something that iPhone users can't easily replace at any rate. This might irk you)

I want it just for their amazing support. An update every 2 weeks? Sounds like heaven. Maybe HTC should take notes, adding this kind of level of support would send it over the top. (We all know Samsung is going to end up being the next Apple soon, so they don't need to fully support their phones like that).
