Setting a different default music player for One M8 and Car Mode

I'm trying to seamlessly get my iTunes music playing on my HTC One M8 without using HTC Sync manager, which I have determined has a garbage interface for music (unless I'm missing something).

I've downloaded doubleTwist and am also using GooglePlay music which both seem to have a much better interface on both my Mac and the phone.

Is there a way for me to change the default music player on the device so that it gives me album art/play controls in Car Mode (and everywhere else feasible?)

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! This has been frustrating.
