Setting Gmail notifications

I just installed Oreo and am trying to set up a specific notification sound for incoming Gmail emails. I placed the file in both the ringtone and notification folders. I gave Gmail storage permissions. My dilemma is I cannot find any setting within Gmail to sssign a specific sound or any for that matter. There is a setting for sound or no sound and that's it. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks. I checked that. Gmail on my S8 running Nougat has different settings than the Gmail app on my U11 running Oreo. I use a one second silent wav file so I can still get notifications with the sound turned off. It's ok as by fiddling with different settings I'm now getting an LED notification which is what I wanted. I was just stumped that there was no longer a way to assign a particular sound to Gmail on my U11. Maybe it's an Oreo thing.
