Setting or app that would allow me to increase the dead time for screen key presses?

Shaky hands here, I get five letters when I want one. VERY frustrating. This would drive speed texters nuts, but would be a real help to people with essential tremor (me) or worse, like Parkinson's.
Thanks, BG

I don't know if there is a direct solution, but I'd suggest trying something like Swiftkey. It lets you make the keyboard HUGE; bigger keys plus smart corrections might be more forgiving.

Swyping. Boy, does that not work for me. I'll keep messing with it, but basically end up with absolute gibberish as it suggests words I don't want.

Also just noticed that if I hold a top row key a millesecond too long it gives me a number instead of the letter I wanted. Is there a way to turn that off or, sorry to harp on this, adjust that delay?

Google, and app developers, if you're listening, a tuneable deadtime for accepting a keypress would be a good feature. Deadtime in control parlance usually means that for a keypress to be seen as TRUE, it has to stay true for x milliseconds, and maybe also stay FALSE for the same period to be seen as having changed back.

I'll try a few keyboard apps, but maybe I need to look into Android app development myself.

Thanks for the suggestions,
BG

Oh well, it was worth a shot, right?

In Swiftkey and the version of Swype that comes from the playstore, there is a setting to choose the number of milliseconds to hold a key before it switches to the alternate (e.g. the number 5 on the letter t). Swiftkey also lets you create a separate number row and will let you turn off the "swiping" feature - I think they call it Curve.
