The settings app on my samsung galaxy s4 crashes every time I tap on my google account. Ive already factory reset my phone and it still crashes. Any way to fix this because if I want to remove a google account I would need to reset my phone. Its on Android 5.0.1

Tried safe mode with no luck. I think I may have to try a system update but I'll have to wait before I buy service for the phone as the system update service wont work without an activated phone.

My s4 has the same problem was updating the apps as a friend wanted to borrow the phone and it kept crashing, I read somewhere if you uninstall the Google settings to stock it should work. So hold down Google settings drag to top where it says app info and click on uninstall update.

I think that's the problem and will have to wait for Google to update but till then the old update should help the settings from crashing.

I have not tried as friend is asleep don't want to disturb but will ask him to try tomorrow and see what happens.

Try using Samsung Kies or Smart Switch to update the system.

I actually have the same issue. Looks like when I downgrade Google Play Services to the factory version, it will work. I sent the phone to Samsung, but they said their software reflash failed and I would have to pay around $70 to get it fixed. I just asked them to send it back and I'm now considering flashing Cyanogenmod. My Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 on Marshmallow does not have this problem.

Kies says my phone has the lastest update already and downgrading play services still makes the settings crash

It's not an issue with the phone so don't bother trying. It's a Google play services bug and they know about it.

Workaround:

Open they gallery app, settings and bingo you're in.

I found another workaround to remove a google account off the S4. I uninstalled all updates to play services, then the settings app hides all accounts on the phone , next go to a google app like youtube and it will say update play services and update the services, next go back to the settings app and the google icon should be the old blue google G logo and find the account you want to remove.

I emailed Google a while back and they said they fixed the problem months ago and any device still experiencing the problem has an operating system issue.

Open they gallery app, settings and bingo you're in.
This worked! Thank you!

Cool this works for me too.
I have another thing to add.
A few months ago when I'm in the land of no google, i can enter the google account without a problem, i just do anything when I'm there as there is no google at all.
