Settings crashes whenever I choose settings/lock screen and security on my Samsung S8+

I am trying to go in and change my security settings but every time I select "lock screen and security" my app crashes and I get the message "Settings has stopped. Restart app." I restart the app and it doesn't work.

I can unlock my phone fine and answer calls and everything else. Why does this keep crashing on me?

Javier, how do I get in safe mode?

Welcome to the forums. It's possible that there's a conflict with some app that you downloaded. You could try opening the security settings after booting into safe mode. If you manage to get in there see what's listed as device administrator.

See this instructions from T-MOBILE.

Javier, it is crashing in safe mode as well.
Have you recently received a system update? You could try wiping the cache partition from recovery. Also, have you sideloaded any app from a different source that Play Store?

Hi, I've been having the same problem and have reset my phone more than once. It seems to be because of an update to one of the apps, although I'm not sure which (one in galaxy apps, anyway). Clearing the cache didn't fix it for me, neither did clearing the settings app data.

I can get into the lockscreen settings via accessibility > direction lock > screen lock type, so I think it might be something to do with always on display.

I had this problem a while ago and the culprit was the app App Cache Cleaner Pro. I removed it and my S8+ settings menu have had no probems since.

I don't have this app, so I guess it must be something to do with clearing the cache on something

Update! It's nothing to do with AOD, I can get into the AOD settings through Display > Always On Display (in the "Looking for something else?" links

I've solved it! On my phone at least.

TL;DR: Disable "Bixby voice" in some package disabler (I use adhell 2), or enable smart lock in the google settings

It's to do with trust agents (that thing where a bluetooth device can verify you and unlock your phone), bixby voice has the ability to unlock your phone or something, and breaks when it finds out it doesn't have this ability. You can see TrustAgents screwing everything up in `adb logcat AndroidRuntime:E *:S`

Seems the galaxy apps update that broke everything was the bixby update that added voice, so if you go into the apps section of the settings app, and select "Show System Apps", you can go to bixby voice, then in the 3 dots menu at the top, uninstall updates. I wouldn't recommend this method as it means galaxy apps will bug you to update bixby, which would reintroduce this bug.

Samsung if you're reading this, pls fix.

I think I have the same issue on my S8+, but I don't understand how to fix it like you described...is there a simple way to change it...I disabled bixby in the settings and the lock screen/security still crashes.

If you have "Smart Lock" disabled, you might have some luck re-enabling it

I think it's under google settings (I'm not sure, I don't have googley on my phone)
