Got my m9 a week ago and loving it mostly, except for the darn power button placement. I Usually use the screen to turn the phone on or off so the physical button is more a nuisance that constantly gets accidently pressed. Question, is there some way to make this a long press button? It would help tremendously and i wouldn't consider trading the phone in if could have this option. Other than this major design flaw imo, it's a great phone

What he said. I would just assign the fourth on screen button as your power button.

I personally love the side power button. Much easier to use for me but I understand everyone is different.

I wouldn't trade the phone in because of it especially if you like it. It's a fantastic device.

Agree 100%. First thing that really annoyed me with the phone was the power button placement. Constantly hit it by just holding the phone normally, placing it in my car mount, etc.

Then I got the clear casemate barely there case, which made the problem worse - bigger, jiggly, buttons on top of the buttons...big fail.

Then I got the Spigen Slim Matte case. And it made this phone awesome again! The side has a little lip that goes over the buttons so you almost can't hit them by accident. No issues holding it, no issues with the car mount.

Highly recommended :)

Are you all that are accidentally hitting the power button holding the phone in the left hand when it happens? I have never accidentally hit the power button. My issue is I constantly hit the lower volume button when intending to hit the power button. I ended up adding a soft button to the home screen and now use it.

Yep, would hit the power button when holding the phone to my ear with my right hand. I would also hit the power button by mistake when trying to hit the volume down button or visa versa. Or I'd just hit the power button when holding the bloody phone haha.

Anyway, the Spigen case solved the issue completely for me, zero issues now, and decent protection and a matte finish for good grip to boot. About 17 bucks on Amazon tax and shipping in, can't say enough good things about it!

What I found that helped me is getting the HTC Clear Shield case. It adds rubbery buttons for volume and power. It's a fairly low profile clear case that doesn't detract from the design. The rubbery buttons need more pressure so accidental presses don't happen. I've since been able to take the case off b/c I got accustomed to the button placement.
