Settings service crashes when I choose a ringtone

Hi guys, lately when I try to choose an mp3 as ringtone, after I select the file the "settings" process is going to crash. How can I fix it?

Where is the file saved? Is it in the Ringtones directory on Internal Storage (as opposed to an SD card)?

The files are on the SD card.

Try copying the ringtone files to the Ringtones directory on Internal Storage.

This is uncomfortable. I want to choose the files wherever they are without get any crashes.i would like to know why the settings process is crashing.

Uncomfortable in what way? Are you concerned you might mess things up by copying the files?

In my experience, ringtones work best when they're in the Ringtones directory on Internal Storage. I don't have a definite explanation as to why there may be issues when they're on the SD card, but this issue has been brought up before, and moving the files to Internal Storage has helped.

I understand, but I just want to understand why if I have the possibility to choose a file from the SD card, I get an error.
