Setup hangs on "checking for software updates"

[Android Central Question]

Setting up my new Google Pixel - when initially connecting to my old iPhone to copy the battery died mid set up.

When I turned on to try again the pixel is now just stalling on Checking for Updates.

Any help much appreciated!

Welcome to Android Central! That's odd -- a new phone should ship with at least 50% battery.

Force a shutdown by pressing and holding Power for about 20 seconds. Then try booting into Recovery Mode to do a factory reset: https://www.theandroidsoul.com/boot-pixel-xl-recovery-mode/. If that doesn't work, send the phone back to Google and ask for a replacement.
