SGS3 won't connect to my Mac... Help please!

hi,

can you help me with my MAC usb connection? i cannot also access my galaxy s3 when i connect it to my white macbook..and by any chance you can tell me what is the meaning of i icon on the left topmost part of my screen?

Thanks.
For Mac connection, see the posts above. Basically, download Android File Transfer for Mac, connect your phone, and switch it to PTP mode.

The icon is the No Notification symbol. See the Notification button in your toggle bar? It's off. Turn it back on. You might have hit it by accident or pressed it without knowing what it does.

Just got my SG3 today and I also have several Macs. Some things I've noticed that weren't mentioned so far. iSyncr won't work if Kies is installed so if you want to use iSyncr you need to remove Kies. Also it was odd but you have to make sure that when connecting to Kies that the phone is on and unlocked, if it goes to sleep Kies won't see it, this isn't a problem once the transfer starts but you need to keep the phone up until Kies sees it.

I've found that iSyncr is pretty damn cool. Made a 25Gb playlist in iTunes and am in the process of syncing it now. I also notices that Kies said I had a total of 2.66Gb of music but there's a bug in that I have 126.6Gb of music, Kies apparently can't see past 3 digits of music!

Hey
I have the same problem as you, but my phone is the HTC one S, so i don't know if what you did works for the phone too. Btw i have no idea how to switch to the PTP mode. Can you help please?

same problem with kies and android file transfer called att and there showing my phone on the old baseband tried every withkies but no phone says computer dont regonize the software i think this lousy.

I do not use a Mac, however I purchased one for my daughters 6 mo. ago and decided to test and see if I could connect to it. I downloaded and installed Kies, and it works perfect.

1. Mac has ML, so the first thing I did is made sure it was up to date (downloaded updates) and rebooted.
2. Downloaded and installed Kies, rebooted.
3. Updated Kies, rebooted.
4. Plugged phone, selected MTP, and Presto.

Have you found a solution? I too am getting the "No Android device found" when i try to use Android File Transfer- and also have turned it off and on., and replugged it etc etc. I was able to get the phone to register on iphoto by selecting Camera (PTP) as opposed to Media Device but iphoto sees NO DATA in it. Either way I have no upload ability as i did with my earlier droid... but one, which is to upload an album to picasa via drop box option...but this is a pain the in the ass as I still have to download pics to my computer after they upload -one by one-if i want to work on them in photoshop or store in iphoto. So i really want to know HOW TO GET THE PHONE TO register with Android File Transfer!! Any progress, insert-logic-here?

Take a look at this discussion. Some of us are having success with Kies. http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii/202293-kies-mac-mountain-lion-solution.html
My experience with Android File Transfer has not been good, although I will admit I've not had much time to troubleshoot in the evenings. Another option to consider that may have been suggested before is to use a Windows VM to connect to and manage the S3. That may be a bit of hassle, but in theory it should work as Parallels or Fusion should be able to pass through USB states natively to your guest OS. I have my Windows 7 instance hanging around for legacy application and data needs, but may just resort to this method if Kies running natively in Mountain Lion has future problems.

I have a GS3 with verizon running stock 4.0.4
I have a macbook pro 10.7.5
andrioid file transfer used to work with my GS3 but no longer is. I've tried changing ptp mtp debugging but it still doesn't recognize my device. iphoto pops up but doesn't show any thing in the folder.

Ok now I also have the Nexus 7 tablet with jelly been 4.1.2 it works just fine android file transfer. So is the issue mac related or samsung? Since my nexus 7 works just fine I have to think their is something with the GS3 that just isn't letting it work. It may not be a google problem per say.

Is it possible that another app or utility also has access to the USB driver subsystem/bus when you try to connect to the S3? I ran into problems recently trying to get iSyncr to work, and completely forgot that I had Kies running in the background. I think there may have been some contention. Does appear to be isolated to the S3 and 4.0.4 combo though given that your Nexus 7 is working fine. I get the exact same behavior as you do with iPhoto. Mounts the phone/SD card but shows no content.

Are you sure you're running 10.7 and not 10.8? Android File Transfer worked beautifully for me in all 10.7 versions. But it broke in 10.8. ATF will not recognize your phone. I'm not sure if it's something google can fix with an update to the app, or if it's permanently broken in Mac OS 10.8.

Yes it's definitely 10.7.5

I don't know if this was somehow related but I connected my brothers zune to my mac and it used aft to view the contents.

I don't connect my gs3 that often to my mac so I don't know if it had stopped working before I connected the zune or after.

It had done this once before and simply resetting the phone and mac fixed the problem. However this time resetting has had no such luck.

I just wonder if there is something cached or something like that which is keeping the Gs3 from being detected by aft. When aft worked it was great. Still is great for my nexus 7.

Would rooting to cm10 make a difference?

Tried all of the above and nothing worked. I connected the usb, clicked the debugging option under developer, downloaded the android file transfer for my macbook pro, switched to camera then to media. At one point I even tried the image capture, it recoginized the device but does not transfer over the files. I finally ended up using the bluetooth file transfer. Problem solved!

I didn't see if anyone suggested Wi-Fi File Explorer. It uses your Wi-Fi connection to connect your phone to your computer. I'm not sure how well it works with Mac. Wi-Fi File Explorer is available in the Google Play store.. pro version 99?

Alternatively you can use Airdroid which is free and can be used to download or upload files to your phone over wifi (it allows you do to plenty of other cool things as well). It works through any browser on Mac or PC.

Wifi File Explorer works absolutely beautifully on the Mac. But it's kind of slow for transferring large or numerous files. USB is way faster than wifi and allows you to drag/drop just like moving things from one folder to another. This app is the next best thing.

ok Verizon just pushed an update to my sg3 named "update_SCH_I535_LG7_to_LHE"

since this update AFT is now working again as long as I have it in mtp mode. Yes I said MTP folks. This is a first, usually its been ptp. When I transfer data or delete something from my sg3 my phone displays a MTP animation. Maybe Verizon/Samsung had finally got this thing to work.

Anyway its working again and hopefully it will stay that way. I've tried Kies and Airdroid but I don't like either of them. AFT is the best for moving large files like movies.

Found this on another website, and it's the first thing that actually worked. Plus, I didn't have to download any other software.

Iwas able to fix the problem by clearing data for the Settings Application (Settings>Application Manager>All>Settings>Clear data) and then setting the phone to connect with MTP instead of PTP. I can now connect to Android File Transfer without a problem. (The first time I had to manually open AFT, but now it pops up automatically)
