I noticed what you're talking about in his hair. Here's another picture from the same set. I think it's a bit better focused. You can see the individual hairs and the detail of the shirt fibers around his neck. I think it's a superb camera.

That image is an order of magnitude more detailed on the subject, even with how the upload system butchered the rez again. Like the difference was merely being more in focus. I am still unclear whether the S5 has a manual focus option for shots like that or say thru raindrops on glass, most cameras will shorten up their AF to sharpen the droplets.

For some unknown reason the Flex will shoot down as low as 1280x960 stills, and QCIF spec videos which is waaay beneath even QVGA 320x240. Like an all day capture mode? Would be nice if my camera had a bit more definition in low light, the flash is great but using it is obnoxious. If the Flex 2 can somehow bring back OIS I'd be happy, but right now I sometimes have a bit of camera envy....

S5 sharpness seems fine then, probably a bit better than my Flex and probably a tad better in low light. M8 is actually promising and can show a high contrast ratio with 'pop', but I keep seeing too much pixel noise in low contrast scenes and there are no spare mpx left to crop for editing...

Sorry to bother but this stuff matters a lot to the people who ask me to name a phone for them (and set it up, and show them how to do a couple things). Some folks are claiming the M8 camera starts up faster than the S5? On my Flex it mostly takes less than 2sec to open and then pretty snappy afterward.

I'll try to put that on Dropbox. I've never used it. But if I have time tonight I'll set it up and link it that way so you can see for sure. I noticed it looks less sharp on here than it does when I zoom on my phone. It's incredibly detailed on the phone. I haven't quite figured everything out, there may be a manual focus, but I doubt it. As for starting up, it takes just under 2 seconds for me (but I just switched my phone setting under developer options to ART rather than Dalvik, so it might be a tad longer for others).

As for the quality of the camera, it's important to me, and I knew I liked the S3 camera, so this was a no brainer for me, especially with how much better it does with low light shots. I'll try to get a few of those in the next few days, but so far I'm very impressed with this camera. It's my favorite feature, well my second favorite (I've been in love with ultra-power saving mode since I woke up with 14 percent power because I forgot to charge the phone, and used it all day in ultra-power saving mode to test it, and didn't charge it until bed that night!).

Here are two low light pictures I just took. The HDR makes a huge difference, I wanted a low light pic with the TV on to see if it would wash out, and with the HDR it doesn't. Ultimately I'm very pleased with the low light performance of the camera on the S5.

Hey guys is there a night function on this phone? If so where do I find this?

^it's a cell phone camera, you can't expect miracles. That scene looks too dark even for my DSLR at ISO 3200 and f/1.8

It survived pretty well in those conditions, especially since it looks like you were freestanding.

Finally got a landscape shot with the S5. No editing other than resizing. I'm impressed.

That shot looks promising but again the rez got butchered. You got 50GB on dropbox, make a folder in your Public area then multi select a couple photos and put them in there. Then just post the link to that folder.

Pretty dark lighting. Not happy with result.

My Sony compact does fine with that lighting...WITH a an aluminum micro tripod (just a cheapo targus telescoping job). I think my Flex would at least do as poorly, but I haven't taken the challenge up yet.

Just a few pictures I took in San Francisco and along the 101 #westcoast
